FMF pipe, FMF power core silencer (not the shorty), Boyesen Pro Reeds, Head cut to correct squish, race gas. After that get the jetting right (I am at 42.5 pilot and 400 main with stock needle) and then gear it to get the shift points how you like them.

What's wrong with the shorty?

Nothing wrong with it. I have both but I prefer the regular length Power core. It kinda splits the difference between the shorty and the stock silencer. The power is more barky with the shorty, as in, it runs through the revs quicker and then drops off more abruptly. You have to be more precise with your shifts and shift more often. Might be better for tighter courses. The regular power core gives better overrev and allows you to hold each gear longer. For example, you can wind out 4th gear on some straights that the shorty might require a shift to 5th which then is one more downshift you have to do for the corner.

See, I preferred the shorty on all my YZ125s... I felt like you had to tap-dance on the shifter on a 125 anyway, so why not get the most ooomph out of it while you're accelerating? Unless you have a lot of tracks with long straights that you are tapped out in 6th gear, use that gearbox and shift it. One man's opinion.

I had Tom Morgan at TMR port and mill my '09 125's top end. The difference was night and day. If you have to keep it a 125, give Tom a call. www.morganracingengines.com

He's Wardy's old mechanic, and also built the engines for Blackfoot Honda and more recently Babbitt's Kawasaki.
