I have a 2004 KX250 (2 stroke). The wheels are straight, and good, however, the spoke nipples are seized, and not adjustable.

I recieved the bike this way, and intended to ride until I had an issue with it. No issue yet, but am thinking of getting black rims.

I have heard some companys will let you send in your hubs, and lace up new rims. Has anyone ever done this? Is it reasonable? I dont need top flight rims, as I am an old Vet D class rider who only rides 2 or 3 times a year.

Have seen complete sets as low as $500.00 on eBay etc... But have no issue with my stock hubs.

Prefer not to go hunting for prices at wheel co.'s, would like input from you guys.

Thanks for any info.

It's not that hard to lace up and true the rims. You must know some one who could do it for you for a few bucks. On the other hand, a decent set of rims and spokes are going to cost over $400. If you only ride a few times a year, maybe the ebay wheels are the easiest way to go.

G Force if you have the time you can use some penetrating oil and some heat to break them loose. Just takes lots of time and patience. Good luck.

Apply some penetrating oil on the threads. Then, from the backside of the nipples use a hammer and #3 phillips/punch/impact driver to "jar" the threads loose. This will shock the threads and break the small layer of corrosion that's seizing them together.

Don't use a spoke wrench on the outside or you risk distorting and ruining the nipples.
