I plan to buy some safety wire from www.mcmaster.com but not sure what diameter to purchase. 1/4 lb of .020" stainless steel safety wire costs less than 8 bucks!

Pit Posse sells .032" safety wire for street bike guys to wire bolts but that seems a bit too big for grips imo.

I like to wire my hose on to the carb and gas tank as well.

I use glue and safty wire. (i have had a grip come off and it ends up hurting)

I think what I use is the .020, I would have to run out the the shop and measure.

No shit.

If your grips are glued properly, no safety wire is necessary...

I prefer the .032. The .020 will cut right through the grip to easy

Try a local welding supply. 2 lb. spool of .023 dia. 308 stainless mig welding wire works good. Along with glue?

Ok, I picked up an 03CR250 and removed the grips and it has the weatherstrip adhesive on it...

Question, will the grips still stick when I put new ones back on over the adhesive... and how should I prepare the grips...if at all...

Thanks..

x3, but you do have to use good grips in addition to the glue. I have had crappy grips come loose even with glue. I've never had a problem with spider grips coming loose with grip glue.

Clean, clean, clean. Add grip glue and .032 wire. Turn the wire ends so they don't snag your gloves.

A few drops of lacquer thinner, slide them on, 2 wraps of .20 stainless wire and they'll never move. Done it this way since 1974.

I use mechanics wire, it's not safety wire but it works. I don't mind giving it away to all those that didn't plan for changing grips at the track.

I've used .020", .025", and the .032" I like the .025" the best the .032 is a bit thick and the .020 sometimes breaks when your twisting it or it can cut the grips, I have the best luck with the medium thickness wire and it works well for saftey wiring bolts, heat shrink, hoses, etc..

Scuff up the bar and the throttle with med grade sandpaper. Then clean with paint thinner, acetone, but do not us gasoline. Apply enamel primer to the bar , throttle and inside both grips. Then install the grips with the primer still wet. The grips will go on fairly easy .You will have about 30 seconds to adjust the grips as needed. But, they will need to fully dry before riding.

I totally agree...
My mates always complain about their grips slipping, and arm pump, I like mine - (well left one, usually throttle tube needs nothing anyway) being able to move, it reminds me to not hold on to tight.

The tusk safety wire from rm is pretty good. Switched to it instead of glue 3 years ago and have never had any issues.

And glue.

Noticed I was getting low on wire yesterday, lock wiring the 3 drain plugs and 4 bolts on the oil filters on my RFS Supermoto.

The pigtail should be bent and poked into the grip
