Finally hit the 40 hour mark on my 2015 yz450f and doing the usual. This is the first bike I have kept long enough to hit this mark, so my question.....

Who has used them, whats your opinion and why, hows the quality.

Thanks guys any help is appreciated.

I've used them several times but always in 2 strokes. Have never had a problem with their top end parts.

Unless you're an A level rider, 40 hours is kinda early for a top end on a 450. Rings aren't a bad idea, but I wouldn't replace anything else yet.
Like seth, I've only used em for 2 strokes.
ProX is what I used on my thumper.

Replaced the oem piston at about 25 hours on my 06 kx450f, they had known wrist pin issues, with a wiseco . I have almost 100 hours on it now and it gets rode fairly hard. I have also raced it in some big6 events which are moto/ off road races with long straights. I would not hesitate to put a wiseco piston on a four stroke. Their cranks on the other hand are suspect.

wiseco pistons are good ive installed hundreds of them over the years
like the other guy said a yz450 will go a long time on a top end i would run it to 80 hrs at least before doing a top end

I agree. but Im not going to push it. I have the yamabond liquid gasket thats giving a little bit on the front of the case so im resealing it anyways. Im "that guy" though. Just staying ahead of the curve since I have to split it anyways.

Again it's kinda soon for a piston in a thumper. Never had a wiseco fail that was thier fault. Did lose one in a Mercury outboard but the timing was way off.

I wouldn't run much more than 40 hours on any piston, but that's just me. I see someone suggested taaking the top end apart to do rings? Why the hell not just throw in a piston since you're doing all the work already. Have run numerous Wiseco high comp pistons in my 450s without a single issue.

I've used a lot of them in 2strokes also.. with good / bad results. Can't imagine that it would be different for a four stroke. However, if they do have an issue it's always with the ring. Sometimes they just don't seal up good due to their tooling and the way they bore the wrist pin. They grasp the pistons from the ring groove. Sometimes there are bad batches of them so buyer beware.

Don't go near them on the 4 stroke I was using CP high comps and decided to try the new wisco race high comps worst mistake ever , very very noisy and hard to tune. after installing ended up stripping the motor 3 times replacing everything on what was just supposed to be a maintenance top end. re-measured everything down to 0.001mm
eventually let it run and they quieten down after they are at full temp but still a lot more noise than the cp's. Then spent hours on the dyno getting a reasonable tune to keep it running and eventually gave up and put a cp back in and all problems go away and gained 2 hp on the dyno and much more ridable

This was a Wisco high comp race piston 13.7 to 1 in a RMZ450 with vortex efi , carrillo rod, FMF TI power bomb
returned to CP 13.0 to 1 and gained HP and rideabilty

Damn. I just did the racers choice 13.5 on my Crf. Emailed them for the weight in gr for that part no. They replied a set weight lighter than Je so I went with it. Arrives and is 8gr heavier than quoted and heavier than Je. Was disappointed. Measured up ok but am waiting for some valve train parts to put the head on.

Sorry to tell you my problems but I saw the topic and had to say something and yes my piston was heavier than the stock and the CP's I ve stuck with CP's and they have been great. my wisco measured the same as a new cp and I got very pedantic but I could not get rid of the noise and we had to run 20% advanced at idle to stop "flame out" with the cp we run between 10 and 12% depending on the map and we are running 101 race gas (in NZ we don't have as much choice as you guys in the USA for fuel good stuff is hard to get and real expensive

I'm in Oz. I noticed the wiseco was very domed.. How's the cp's shape? F$@k don't scare me with flame out.

I've built a couple of motors for a couple of 250 guys running the Nationals, and my experience is to stay away from the wiseco on the four strokes. I got two of the exact same piston and they had two different measurements and weights. Their production isn't very consistent. I like the CP Pistons myself.

I do use wiseco in two strokes. They have great two stroke Pistons.

The CP I put in my previous yzf450 was a fair bit heavier than the stock piston.

What would make the piston vary in weight between identical part numbers? Because 9 grams is a lot of alloy.

Since I fit the wiseco 13.5-1 in my crf it does have a slight wurring noise to it when blipping the throttle. Runs extremely well but definitely has more engine braking
