So I have 50lbs of soda and a blasting cabinet. I have my 250 motor on the stand right now and have considered blasting it whole. I've seen some threads about people doing this but it scares me that I might get some soda inside the motor. I stuffed a towel and duct taped the intake, I cut a piece of thick foam out and stuffed into the exhaust port and taped over that and also taped up the water ports. Does anyone have any experience doing this? Any better way of ensuring no soda gets into the Engine?

Seems it would be OK to me. Might want to avoid blasting certain parts like cylinder and head studs or else they might get dull looking. I'd also tape over the little weep hole on the water pump. don't want grit getting in there and getting on the pump seals. Same with the breather hoses on the tranny and power valve.

Done it a few times. Just plug everything well and go for it. I doubt soda would cause any big issues if it did get somewhere in small amounts.............

Not the best photos, but these kx cases had crud from 1989 on them, I have at least 3 hrs into hand cleaning them, now ready for soda blast as a final finish process.

About to do my current project also, my cases are gutted. Just plug all the openings, when done use compressed air to blow off excess soda, I would also flush gearbox & cooling system before putting into service. Soda works good on the bare cases, carb bodies even some white Plastic parts, did my 96 cr radiator grilles, they came out very nice. I use the soda for a good cleaning type abrasive & fine glass bead cabinet for a sand cast raw look. Soda also works good on Crome parts.

After blocking all the entry points did you find anything in the bottom end after you were done?

Agreed, the last photo shows how bad the underside of the cases are. I have not not soda blasted the cases yet, I have multiple items that will require soda blasting & glass bead blasting, I like to do all of it at one time, because I do all my blasting at my brothers shop, he has a much bigger compressor to run the equipment.

I blasted my engine last night. I use a sand blasting cabinet at work and the filter system wasn't working very well. The dust from the soda was so bad I couldn't see inside the cabinet. I ended up pulling it out. I got a little bit done and it seemed to do a good job but I didn't get the bottom of the motor where it was the worst. I'm just going to finish with a scotch brite pad

Very nice job! Ive noticed Race Tech is trying to market the ability to soda blast parts (suspension, engine, etc.) I just need to perfect my process as when I attempted it earlier in the week my blasting cabinet was so dusty I couldnt even see my motor. The parts I did get blasted were very clean though and i was happy with that part.

Riesenberg, on a different note, when yall blast the fork axle blocks do you tape up the fork leg or do you completely remove the block from the legs?
