Could anyone tell me how to tell if the rear shock needs re gassing?
Have just redone my forks with new springs, and put a new one also on the rear also.
Just wondering if there are any tell tale signs that the shock needs regassing?

You can check the nitrogen pressure just like you would a car tire - except that the psi needs to be something like 130 pounds (check your owner's manual.) Do not fill it with air; it must be nitrogen. A qualified service shop can do this for you.

Thanks for the replies.

Im not sure if it does need replacing or not, bike has 60 hours on the clock, I have only owned it for the last 15, so unsure if its been done before or needs to be done.

What would be a realistic lebgth of time to expect between overhauling a rear shock?

Shock service = disasemble, clean refill with fresh oil and nitrogen charge.

When was the last time the shock was serviced? Dont know? .... its overdue.

Should be performed 2 times a year if the bike is ridden regularly.

Yea, what happens is the dirt in the oil can wear out the inside of the shock. A guy told me he saw a year old shock that was ruined once. Many 85s that are several years old shocks are shot. The big 5 don't put as good of coatings on the insides of them.

you cant really check the pressure in the reservoir very reliabily. yea it has a schrader valve (kyb and showa) but the volume is so small that when you go to check it you loose some connecting and disconnecting your gauge. you'll be worse off actually trying to check the pressures.

as stated before 60 hours is overdue for a service. you should be servicing it every 30 or so *IMO*
