I'm picking up a 16 KTM450 in a few weeks and this fuel is available to me locally out of the pump. Is it safe to run? Will I need a remap for it?

Thanks

That will be too much octane. You could use it mixed with a good premium and have a good fuel. Too much octane means the fuel will burn too slow and the engine will not run correctly no matter how you jet it.

To get the all the performance you are paying for with race fuel you would have to remap it, otherwise the only benefit you might get from running that 110 in a stock bike is the consistency and lead content it has compared to the pump. 50/50 is your best bet you'll feel the difference compared to pump only most likely.

Race gas is a waste of money for a modern thumper. They all run fine on premium pump gas.

That said, I run VP 110 in my modified CR250. The compression in that bike has been raised at it needs high octane race gas to stay alive.

The only reasons I am considering it is for the consistency and safety of the blend and the added benefit of lead. I understand that higher octane = slower burn = less power at a given map. I don't need more power. I was more looking for safety and wondering if the lead benefit was worth it.

You will make less power with 110 in a thumper. Greatly increasing the octane required to prevent detonation in an engine results in less power.

Just run pump gas from a busy station and forget about it.

Many people have concurred that running a race fuel not intended for street use whether it be leaded and/or oxygenated results in a cleaner combustion and an increase in output across the powerband, albeit a very small increase. With the ever increasing CR's of modern thumpers, they can only benefit from a higher octane, higher quality fuel. Whether or not you NEED it is the real decision. I agree that you can run too high of an octane rating (i.e. 110) which will actaully be less reactive in a stock bike compared to premium at the pump. Try VP's U4.4 its oxygenated and leaded, and has a octane rating of 103. It's awesome shit, but be careful you can get addicted haha.

Way to much octane. Even u4.4 is too much on a stock motor. The u4.4 will work amazing if its mapped properly, the t4 is your best bet
