So I just bought an 09 RMZ 450 and it is in stock form as far as I can see, my questions are:
#1- under the front # plate is a piece of duct tape labeled map#2. So what does that mapping indicate?

#2- the fork tubes are black which I don't believe to be factory?

unfortunately I bought this bike from a shop and didn't get any history on the bike.

The maps were a simple plug in. The bike would have come with 2 plugs. The number 2 would be the hardest hitting plug. You should be able to get the #1 from a dealer or by order, if desired.
Most likely stock forks painted.

Not the outer tubes the inner ones are black. I will try and get a picture.

The map plug ins for the RM-Z aren't behind the front number plate. They are behind the left radiator under the shroud. So I'm not sure what they would be indicating with the tape.

The forks are coated (probably DLC coating like Kawi's come with stock?). Are the suspension companies logos still on the bike? Might be able to contact them for information on what all was done.

The fork lugs look hard coated, sort of like kit forks. I'm just going to throw this out there, but if someone spent the money for the coatings, then more than likely the internals have been changed as well. The 2009 was a great bike. I loved mine and I regret selling it.

I don't have a pic of the tape with the notes.
But here is the bike.

Those appear to be the RG3 Diamond kit forks. Great suspension once tuned right. If my memory serves me correctly, They retail for around 4k?

Oops, I didn't read that it was an 09. I'm not sure if the map plug ins I am referring to are in the same spot on the 09. Might be behind the front plate...

I am not with the bike now but I remember a couple plugs and a black box bolted to the front of the frame under the # plate. The black box has the note saying map#2.

The 2009 did not offer the separate couplers. Maybe the ECU was remapped.

You are correct, the '09 did not come with the couplers, but later models did and this could have been changed out.
It will just be a plug in coupler with a single wire running from one socket to another in any case if it is there.

Tyler medalias practice bike??
I guess so. Bike is super clean and I mean like just built clean. Fresh grease where needed, no dust even inside the air box, bars have no marks from straps, engine is spotless, cases have very little scratches. Etc. Anyhow I am pretty happy and can't wait for the damn snow to melt.
