Piston wrist pin retaining clip HELP

I installed a new piston today and when I was installing the retaining clips(c clips) on one side the retaining clip that I installed is with the open end lined up with the relief notch used to remove them. When I looked in the manual it said not to....to install the opened end at 6 o'clock. Will this affect any performance or oiling or do they tell you to do that so they can be removed? I tried to spin it but didn't want to scratch piston so I left it alone

Generally, the open end needs to be at the 12 or 6 o'clock position. The theory is that the force of the piston being pushed down could collapse the clip enough to pop it out if the open end is at 3 or 9 o'clock. Can't say that I have personally see it, but I always install them straight up.
