It was not as bad as you think. I priced some ready made all aluminum enclosed trialers and I did not pay much more for this one.

pretty bad ass.
wondering if keeping the overall hight of the trailer below the roofline of the vehicle will help with gas milage?
towing my enclosed trailer cuts my MPG in half.

Thx, I thought about what I wanted for a long time. Could not find one ready made, so I found a guy willing to build one. I have been riding out of it a couple of times now and really like the function and simplicity. I have had way bigger rigs and was just looking to downsize, but I still wanted the security of an enclosed trailer.

I have a small compressor that I am going to store below the tool box. Still transferring stuff out of my box van that's in the shop.

So the guy who built it, do they specialize in custom trailers, or more aluminum fabrications in general, and the trailer was not a regular item? And is this a "one off" trailer?

Nice trailer! I've never been a trailer guy but I've been thinking about getting one for race days because I'm about at the limit of my truck for space if I bring my wife and son. It seems to me that a double axle is better than a single to keep the trailer from see-sawing as you're getting in and out of it. Is there something I'm not thinking correctly about regarding that? I noticed you did a single axle for yours.

He has a few spec trailers, but most of his work is custom. I called and we hashed out what I wanted over the phone. There is a huge gallery of trailers on the website. I'm sure he still has the build sheet for mine. Montrose Trailers

Usually double or single axle is determined by size. Mine is pretty small at 5x10. Also if you look close I had him install jacks on the rear. That way I can stabilize the trailer when its unhooked.

OP I really like it, that thing is bitching! But won't it turn into an oven when it gets hot out?

I live in the hot humid south so I was concerned about that but oddly enough it does not seem to get any hotter than a regular enclosed trailer inside. The best part of the hinged top it that all the heat goes out of it when you lift it up. I sat inside it last week end getting dressed. I had the fan going and the top blocked the sun.

One thing to keep an eye on is the wheel bearings, the smaller wheels turn more revolutions which builds more heat which can cause wheel bearing failure. Use good Marine waterproof grease and that will help.
