My KTM SX 250 build

12/20/2015 12:39am Edited Date/Time 4/2/2016 3:09am
After two seasons with the great CRF 450, I decided that I really wanted to ride a twostroke again. Getting the Honda sold was a pain in the ass, but after a few weeks it was gone, and I was able to pick up this baby: 2014 KTM SX 250, almost new, seller said it had done about 20 hours, but it looked more like 2. I've spent the past couple of weeks getting this baby dialed for next season. This is the fastest 250 I have ever ridden. Before the Honda I had an ´11 SX, that had about everything dpne to it you could think of, but still wasn't as fast as this bike completely stock, with just an FMF silencer on the stock pipe. I've been finding a lot of great deals on parts lately, so this bike is going to be even more awesome once it's done.

The Rockstar graphics were ugly af, so I swapped them for the stock ´14 plastics that were included when I bought the bike.

Some stuff I got for a good price. The carbon pipe guard is probably the worst part I've ever spent money on. It's not the original KTM powerparts guard, but some cheap shit, it melted on the pipe and smelled horrible. Took it of after two hours because I just couldn't stand the smell while riding.

Stock graphics look a million times better!

I just listed my CRF as well and will decide between the sx or yz once it's sold.

Well this escalated quickly...

haha, nice bike.

Do yourself a favor and put a 38mm carb on it. It makes a WORLD of difference for the overrev

They were crazy cheap, 8000 dkr which is just over 1100$ from a guy who stopped riding and just wanted to get rid of his stuff.

I also came off a 450f (ktm) and bought a 14 sx250, about a year a go now and I absolutely love it.
one of the things I'd advice you to do is run the Suzuki NECJ needle and go up on the main, I've got a 175 in at the moment, while it's winter in the UK and I ride (or at least would if I wasn't injured) a lot of deep sand. when the weather warms up and tracks dry out I drop to a 172/ 170. I think a lot of guys on this forum are running a similar set up too.

Works great for me. There's several overs on this forum running similar size main too.

I have a 175 main also, plug looks good but I'm getting a little detonation. It has been there just a tiny bit all along but as the weather has cooled off the pinging has gotten worse. Might have to find some race fuel Sad

Yes, I run a 175 which is perfect through normal weather conditions. At extreme temperatures it can be a little lazy at low RPMs but it just reminds me to hold it more WFO :D. My 2013 had over 200 hours on it and I never changed the jetting from a 175.

Sick. Honestly, it looks 100x better without the rockstar graphics.

Nice! If you rub that pipe down with a scotch brite pad and some wd40 it'll come up real good.

Av gas is another alternative to race gas if you have an airport near by. Blend at 25/75 with your 91 pump, or do the same with your race gas, to suit yourself. Great looking bike: thumbsup.

Man I wish I could get avgas for my sx250. Very hard to get in Australia if you don't have a aviation license

I got mine at Donnybrook airport, in Vic back in the 2000s through a friend. Arrive with a slab or a box of pies and see what happens.

Looking good! A Hinson clutch cover would really fit that bike well.

Just got the engine back. Got the some work done on the carb and cylinder. Also installed a VHM head with a higher compression combustion chamber. Can't wait to ride this thing

I've recently fitted a pro circuit Shorty silencer and it made it a lot more crisp and noticeable bottom end. I think a set of those raptor pegs are next on my list Wink

I really like the 16 plastic with the new front fender on there, and the orange airbox is nice too!
