So back on the Sept long weekend, I purchased this 05 Yz125, and wanted to spruce it up a bit, originally I was just going to do the suspension, pipe/silencer and graphics. Well it got a little out of hand (damn Ebay...lol !) and it snowballed into a full on rebuild.

As purchased:

Torn down:

Some of the new stuff:

The rebuild:

It still needs the rear sprocket, chain and rear disc to complete the reassembly. Plus I have the '07 shift stop on order to up-grade the potentionally defective 05/06 part.

Thanks.

did you ask dirtyfilter75 if you could put black wheels on that thing?

That bike looks incredible, btw. good job. I like the unfinished "factory" pipes, but the platinum looks really good on the blue.

I was going to go with the factory pipe but the deal I got on this one was too good to pass up Smile

Yes, I did put a new top-end on it, and new clutch plates.....

Great job. That bike is sweet. There has been a few posts about guys re-doing 2 stroke bikes. I'll bet you can sell that bike and make a profit in a minute, but why would you. The shift stop is easy to replace. I never had trouble with the old one, but I changed it anyway. Congrats on a great job.

On my 2005 Yz 125, it wasnt the shift lever that was the problem, it was hte shift bearing(not sure of the exact name) but on the 2005's, it is a ball bearing and in mine, the balls in the bearing got lose in the motor and you can guess what happened from there. but I would recommend changing out this part out with one from an 07 that doesnt have the balls in it.

ok i just looked up the part and its called a segment. the part is 30 at motosport. and save yourself potentially a lot of money.
here is the link to the part. it is part number 1http://www.motosport.com/dirtbike/oem-parts/YAMAHA/2005/YZ125/SHIFT-SHA…

That thing looks awesome. I think my rebuild will be 125 also. I've rebuilt my kx125 probably 3-4 times from racing it, but I'm thinking of doing a different bike. I'm leaning towards a YZ.........

wicked bike! only thing that is bothering me are a couple of the stickers. Such as the fox head on the rear shock? With such a great looking bike i find the stickers take away a little of the "clean" look, just a thought lol.

I would have preferred a Factory pipe, but I got too good a deal on the Platinum to turn it down...
I'm really starting to like it though Smile

I've got plans of picking up a 2005 YZ250 in the next month or two and I'll be trying to make it look half as sweet as that bike! Nice work.

Very nice job mate. How difficult is it to fit the yzf front fender to the two stroke? Does it bolt straight up? I'm lookin to pick up an 09 yz 250 and would like to give it a more modern look
