Well, my 15 kx250f is eating through chains, sprockets and especially chain sliders.

I put on a new chain and sprockets 10 hours ago (RK chain and ultralight steel rear sprocket), and they both are already quite shot. Also put on a new chain slider today (Ufo), and after 4 25minute motos the chain had already eaten all the way through the slider into the swingarm?! Sick
I always keep my chain properly lubed and make sure the tension is right. A couple of riding buddies (all on kawasakis) also have the same problem (Altough not as bad as mine).
it looks like there is a design error, as the chain seems to get pressed down on the swingarm when it gets tensioned.

Any advice on how to fix this?
Is the TM designworks chain slider worth the extra money?

Thanks in advance,
Simon

Your chain is too tight if you ate thru it that fast. I would loosen that baby up and buy some k y jelly and lube up the next one. Wink

Is your wheels aligned evenly on both side? If it's crooked, could cause wear...

What size sprockets are you running?

You should post some pics of the worn sprockets and sliders. Without pics it's difficult to suggest anything...

Sorry to hear that trouble! I have a couple of tips that helped me out.
Make sure you are checking the tension exactly the way the service manual says to do it.
On stand, off stand, where you take the measurement, and how ( is it peak chain height, or the difference between slack and tight?) This can differ from bike to bike, year to year. Either way, I would try running it a bit on the looser end and see how that goes.

Thanks for all the replies.

I adjust the chain exactly like it is recommended in the manual, and the axle blocks are in exactly the same position on each side.
Running stock gearing (13:50)

I am going to purchase a new drivetrain and let the chain be a little looser than recommended in the manual.
Hopefully it is going to last now Smile

Common issue on 2009+ KXF's, you need to get your hands on the TM Designworks Baja slide-n-guide kit. Nothing else really holds up.

Try going to a 14/53 sprocket set up. The ratio is very close to what you have now and the chain will be a bit further from the swing arm chain sliders and that should reduce wear a lot.

This.. But be prepared to start eating up chain guides, unless you can lower yours slightly.

I have not seen chain guide wear issues with only three teeth added to the rear sprocket.

I agree. Chain slider issues are usually a result of a smaller countershaft sprocket. It changes the angle the chain comes off at with the smaller diameter sprocket and makes it more like a saw than anything else.

I have a 2013 Kx250F. I had the factory one wear through rather quickly. 22 hours and it was shot. Stock 13T countershaft sprocket while running a 50T rear. At 22.5 hours purchased another 13T countershaft sprocket with a 49T rear and a D.I.D ERT2 chain and TM designs chain guide. Worth the extra money for sure. I'm at 72 hours and the chain slide and guide just now need replaced. In fact just installed new chains, sprockets, and another TM designs set tonight getting ready for this weekend. It seems to be an issue with our Kaws. However, if that's the worst thing that I've had happen in 72 hours, then it can eat through these things all it wants lol. CoolWink
