What isthe opinion of guys that have big bore kits on 250 2 strokes? Is the power valve still functional? 295 is quite a big difference.
In 96 I had my CR125 bored to 144. That was before everyone was doing it to their 125. I didn't like it because it seemed to kill the rev . If I had to do it again I wouldn't
I just did black rims n my 83 KX125. I can't believe all these years I was scared of building a wheel. Id rather build a wheel than remove a 04 YZ450 carburator
The black frame was a good choice.

I totally agree on the 04 450 comment, and let's not mention the yz400 carb removal vs wheel building lol . I've done a lot of research and talked with guys from forward motion. The biggest downside at least for me is I'll be doing A lot of jetting and note taking until I get baselines and a good feel for the bike. That goes for the 265 kit too. From what I've researched and learned the 295 kit on pump fuel with the "mo betta" jetting is basically a torque monster. I'll do a full write up after break in and I get everything tuned. I know this doesn't answer your question from experienced big bore owners but I have talked to a ton of guys and have done a lot of research throughout this project!

Thanks on the black frame, every part I add seems to pop better and make the frame stand out more for a real balanced look!

Looks good so far, almost makes me wish I went black with my KX250 frame.

That makes me want to sell a bike to do some work to my KX250!! Good job Daniel keep us posted. Its a shame that the race shop doesn't seem to get nearly as much traffic as moto related. Even tho every thing moto related just about starts or ends in someones garage

Well it's been awhile here but I just got the cylinder crank and piston back from forward motion right before I went on vacation and I'm back on days off so time to reassemble a motor! For now here's a few pics of the competed rolling chassis, and a side by side comparison of the Pistons! My clutch kit and silencer should be here from eBay Tuesday, and the rest of my parts, radiator hoses carb hoses and reeds around the same time!

Looks nice haha I like the " Budget Blown" caption. I think we all set a budget and it ends up getting blown. Nice bike.

I think I may just sleep in the garage! All that's missing is some pre mix and a few heat cycles....I'll snag some better pics in the day light tomorrow and maybe a vid. Then Friday I'll get some action shots!

Thanks guys! I just got back from the track and it was a blast! Ill get some pictures up here in a few once they download. I definitely notice the power coming out of the corners and I can feel the motor not just wanna rev to the moon now. I left my gearing the same as I had and definitely feel it has more usable power. Did some practice starts and I'll have to make some changes or get a holeshot device. First gear wants to dig pretty hard, second gear comes off the line great but as soon as I get over the gate it goes into one hell of a wheelie lol. Thanks everyone for all the compliments! I'm ear to ear grinning right now!

Nothing like riding a completely rebuilt bike!
I would personally put something on the forks, like a KYB sticker or something. Did you run into any problems with the bike or was it just smooth sailing at the track?

No problems at the track other than minor clicker adjustments and playing with the idle a little.

how was the power band
The biggest thing I noticed is the mid range harsh hit is gone. I get smooth power from bottom to top. our track isn't regularly groomed unless it's a race weekend or we get a ton of rain, so I was able to ride in a pretty beat track which is what I prefer. Between the suspension and motor, I noticed on exit of corners I wasn't sliding all over and bouncing around every acceleration bump. I could just stay in my line and roll right in the throttle and felt really smooth.

Moral of the story..... don't set a budget. That B word is the dirtiest word I know.

Well I figured I chuck one more update then let this thread fall away lol. I finally got to ride a track with some loam and traction and ohhh man. Took most of the first practice to make some changes to my riding style but man I had a blast and give this thing some traction and she will pull for days. I'm thinking a flywheel weight may be in order. So far no jetting issues. Suspension is taking some getting use to but it's so nice to not be bottoming out. nowbif only someone would buy me a year supply of air filters id be pumped!

The rear rotor looks to be the stock KX one from 2006 onwards.

That is what I was thinking too, but wasn't positive.. So pretty much, any newer KX rotor should work?
