Hey guys, I have play in my swing arm when the bike is on the stand. I have found that the front linkage bolt is loose in that shim.

Anyone have this problem? I tried another used shim and it's the same. Should I just buy both parts to fix the problem?

Thank you for the advice.

Generally the bolt is not used as a pivot, but rather holds the sleeve in place for the bearings to move and pivot on. The loose fit of the bolt in the sleeve should not be an issue if it is torqued to spec's as that holds the sleeve in place.

Thanks for the reply Paw, I found the sleeve and bolt on Rocky Mtn for $60. I'm just going to replace them both to put an end to knocking.

To me you would almost have to have a interference fit on every part to have zero up and down play. Say you had .0005 clearance for each bearing, that is 1/2 of 1/1000th of a inch, multiply that by 4 or 5 pivot points would = something you could feel at the end of the wheel with the amount of leverage on the swing arm.

I say that to say, some play can be common even with new bearings. Obviously none is optimal. But if your swing arm moving up say 1/8 to 1/4 of a inch, you have a problem.

Yeah it's a small about of play at the linkage, but because of leverage the rear axel will play at least 1/8in. I will update when the parts come in. It will just keep getting worse if I don't fix it now...
