Whats up guys not sure if this is the right section of the forum but whatever. I am going to be buying a dual sport this summer and would like some input on which one. Not really looking for a company rather a displacement size. I would ride probably 70 percent paved roads 10 percent fire lanes 5 percent tight woods and the other 5 would be on highway. I am unsure of what size to get. I feel like a 650 would be to big for the woods and a 250 would be to small for the highway. I also feel like a 400 would be to because i have a 450 and could not see myself riding that on a highway. For any of you that have one some input or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time!

My old 350 is only like 30 lbs heavier than a modern 650 and I have no trouble wrestling that through tight stuff. If you are going to be doing 70% paved, I think a 650 is the way to go. I have no experience with the KTM or Husky 500's though so they might be your answer. But if you don't want to spend that kind of money a DR650 is one of the most well liked dualsports to ever grace our earth at a very affordable price.

5% wood tight.. LOL, don't kid yourself, that much pavement, only feedback I can give you is my friend 50+ year old plus decide to get the BMW 650 and within a month traded in for bigger BMW. The 650 while lighter did not have the power necessary to enjoy it on the pavement. So definitely test ride the different size displacements.

I did enjoy my KTM 500 XC-W. I would recommend the EXC instead as converting mine to street was extra work that was not worth it. The KTM 500 did well on the high speed pavement, but not sure 70% would be that much fun. It did well all around though.

Have ridden both BMW and KTM, I would recommend the Triumph Tiger 800 or BMW GS 800.

Don't know anyone thats tried it, but I always thought the best bike for your needs would be the 690 KTM Enduro.

Used XR650 only because when you go to sell it in 5 years it will be worth $100 less.

I have a '14 KTM EXC500 and love the bike. However.... It is not a very good bike, in my opinion for the street. I'm 95% dirt and rarely ride it on the street, unless I take off out of my garage to head into the hills up the street from my house.
Like mentioned already, if I were riding mostly street, I'd get the Honda XR 650.
