How Often do you changet your oil

Edited Date/Time 10/31/2014 8:46pm
I have a 13 Suzuki 450. The owners manual says change it every 2 hours or 2 races. I understand that that's the recommended change time but as a struggling teenager who worked my ass off to buy this bike brand new it's not so easy buying an 80$ jug of oil when it's not necessary to change it. I followed the manual but when I changed it it was still green and fresh like I just poured it! Just wondering how long you guys wait to change it and what you guys think.

I average about every 6 hours. Give it take depending on the conditions, race, practice, ect...

Usually every 2 rides. I may change it after 1 ride if it was abnormally hot or there was a lot of clutch abuse. The oil filter gets changed every other oil change.

I would look into switching to Rotella T for your oil. A gallon jug is $14 at Wally World. I can get 4 oil changes out of it for the KX250F. I've used the stuff in by bikes for about 6 years and have never had an issue and I know a lot of others use it with good success. Rekluse even recommends using Rotella if you are using their clutches.

Exactly this, Rotella was reccomended to me by a friend who worked with the blackfoot team up in canada back when they were on hondas (07-08?) Tried it in the 2007 Honda 250f I was running at the time and haven't looked back since. Now I've got an '09 YZ250 2 stroke and '14 YZ250f, and they both seem to work really well with it. 15w-40, non synthetic, white bottle.

Rotella at Wally World is "the secret" indeed! Every 2 or 3 rides depending on conditions as others have stated, too.

How much moto and what kind of riding level are you at? You dont need to change your oil every few rides if your just cruising your back yard track an hour or so a day. Just clean that air filter

I change mine every 3-4 hours which is usually 2 riding days at the track. Oil filter every 10 hours.
