What's the cheapest way to gain some top end power without shortening my engine life?
What year btw
Paw Paw
The Shop
- Full Leo Vince pipe
- Removed backfire screen
- Dynojet EFI programmer with map for the above mods
Standard everything else.
Turned it from a lazy motor that used to backfire and cut-out to a monster. Lent it to a friend of mine last year and he pulled the holeshot and won the race:

Just had a quick look for an APE head but their website only lists 02-06, I might send them an email about a 16 model head and see if they make them or not.
With the dynojet Is it pretty self explanatory or do you need to know about mapping engines beforehand?
Cheers for the help guys much appreciated.
I have a Vortex ECU on a CRF 250 and it is the same as the above but much more user friendly. You just replace the stock ECU with the Vortex one and then use a screwdriver to alter the pre-programmed maps (no laptop required - means you can do it at the track). Downside is the cost, but you can pick used ones up on eBay.
Cheaper option is to buy one of those JD jetting piggyback systems. They do the same kind of job as above, but trick the system as opposed to altering the fuel/air mixture inside the ECU itself, if that makes sense. They're about 150 GBP.
If you want to wake up a CRF, a pipe and a remap is the best way and leave the rest of the engine standard. That said, my CRF 250 was slower than a week in jail, so put a Pro-Circuit cam in there too.
Clean up the ports around the bowls/seats, hi-comp piston, cam maybe too and you've got a bike that's national speed.
Good Luck!
cam (ron hamp, or hot cams stage 3)

All I can say is the top end power is awesome.. it pulls very hard and very long.. To me its almost scary fast from mid to top..It Rocks!
