I can't even imagine why that would crack there unless the previous bearing rusted and the pressure split the Alu. and then you didn't notice it earlier. maybe at that time the split was still internal. I'd replace the frame but that's just me. We make parts for a high end bicycle manufacturer that makes Alu BMX frames. After all welding is done they have to be sent out for heat treating and the weld softens the material.

Yeah I would replace. Then hang that sucker in the garage. Another thing to consider is the frame you buy should come with the title I believe.

I found another on on there that is actually from an 06 so it should be good to go with no headaches. Thanks for looking out!
Wonder if the local recycler will give me any $$ for my old one haha?

i think ive seen that on another bike. dont know if it was a crf or not. i think theres a casting mark right down the center (cast in halves). so it would make sense it failed there.

LOL nothing significant! I'm a +40 B rider, not like I was hitting metal ramps or anything. Like I said, I have noticed a tiny trail along the crack there for some time, so I'm guessing it was a defect in the casting. It is right beside the casting mark, maybe it wasn't in the right position when it cooled? And I have no idea if it's a surface crack or going all the way through. Who knows it might be fine indefinitely, but better safe than sorry.

All I can think about is Ping's crash in 02...
