thanks. ebay a while back. for a good deal. but had to replace a lot of parts on it. rods were shot in the forks, bushings and seals as well. upper tubes were really chipped and shock body was scuffed up so ended up tracking down new body and some lightly used tubes. all in all i had to spend some $$$ to get it up to shape, but probably came out on top everything included.

you HAVE to tell them to plug the tubes so only ano is on exterior.
Im planning on getting my outer fork tubes anodised, I asked my anodiser if hard anodising would affect the ID of the fork tubes, and they swear blind that it will not affect the reassembly or the performance of the forks.

Have you had bad experiences with anodising the whole fork tube before?

Best bet is to call and talk with them and see what their schedule is and when they are running something similar to what you want done. Thats how i did fork tubes and it was around $65, mostly due to the amount of material used. I get drivers done for my bicycle hubs i build, they are $2 each. I paid $200 to have my own fixture made so i can have drivers done anytime and its $2 a part. I ususlly send 75 at a time to make it worth their while.

not personally no.
but dont risk it, tell them to plug the tubes and do external only. no reason to coat the inside. at all.

Blue TiN look the best in my opinion for some reason I cannot embed photos with my iPhone here lately. Anyone else having that problem?

ok Ill have a chat with them. When i disassembled my rear shock on my RM125 I noticed that the inside of it is anodised, Showa must just anodise the whole lot, inside & out. Can't really tell if the inside of the fork tubes are anodised.

Only reason i can think of for not anodizing the inside would be in the event something came loose and hit the interior wall hard enough to etch the ano, it would contaminate the oil with the loose ceramics. Raw wall would scratch and be ok. A raw wall is a higher friction surface versus an anodized surface.

Never seen an "raw" surface inside the fork leg.

What happens if the so called sealing for not anodizing the inside don't work ?

The only thing is that DLC coatings offer less friction thatn TiN

yeah pretty sure the insides are hard anodised. they wouldn't be raw aluminium, it would wear too quick.
