you think its because of their rebound settings and not because they are better riders?

Bernard, I actually haven't ruled out technique completely, but I'd like to get a general direction that will save me some tuning time and make my practice time more productive.
Do you have something intelligent to say or are you just a loudmouth Texan that's he here to bust my balls?

sorry my response wasnt 'intelligent' enough for you.

i'm a bit confused on what kind of 'intelligent' response you were looking for in a reply. maybe mitch payton will get on here and tell you about his top secret rebound settings (insider tip, +30 clicks on rebound) that will make you jump the extra 4-5' you need to be able to catch up with those pesky pro riders that are always eluding you.

the idea that you think rebound settings are to give you extra jump distance makes me wonder about your 'B' level status to begin with.

Ok, I guess I'll take you word for it that c riders and pros run the same suspension and the fast ones buy A kit suspension for $8000 just because it's shiny bling.

If you are riding a 4 stroke...Try to hit the jumps a gear higher than normal under full throttle all the way through the face of the jump. The 4 stroke will jump further from torque than speed.

of course beginners and pros dont have the same suspension settings. a pro isnt going to want a bike thats set up like a couch with no response. but that will cater to a beginner that needs it to be forgiving and not harsh.
that has nothing to do with how far a bike jumps though.

Thanks, Paw Paw, that confirms what I've been feeling since I went from C to B class.
I guess I'll just go with my gut feeling on the rest of my setup.

My current theory is to go as fast as possible on rear rebound without kicking or occasionally kicking as opposed to slowing till it packs then -1 out. I feel like the slightly slow rear rebound I used to run feels a little dead now and I feel like I'm loosing grip on corner exits. I'm also hoping a seat-bounce will return with a little more pop. I just was hoping somebody who trains pros with a stop watch would verify I'm not imagining things.

I tune my front rebound based on how it turns on a flat corner. I probably won't change that.
I think I understand compression setups, no issues there.
I'm on an 07 CRF450 btw. It was fully revalved by FC for someone very close to my weight. All the recommended settings washed off before I bought it though.
