I just picked up a sweet 1987 Honda CR250R and am looking to do a RJ replica so of course I will need USD forks.

Is it true 92-95 CR500 forks and triple clamps are a direct bolt in?
Is it the same for the 92-94 CR250 forks?
Any clue if I will need a specific (89) lower triple clamp or will the CR500 lower work fine? There was another conversion out there and he used the 89 lower clamp with 92 CR500 forks and 92 upper triple clamp.

Will I need to change any wheel spacers, brake hardware or anything like that? Or is this a kind of "figure it out as I go" type of project?

Thanks so much for the help.

Joko, you may be correct but he is going for an RJ replica so I think the early years like 1989-91 would suffice. You will want the grey narrow fork guards of course.

This guy did the 92 500 Forks and upper triple clamp with the 89 250 lower, not sure why he used the older lower clamp. Is there something I am missing as to why he used that? Maybe for the front fender fitment? Its the only thing I can come up with, thanks again for the help.

By the way this bike would look soooo much better with an original seat, not bagging just my opinion...

Ok everybody I found and ordered a set of 93 CR500 Forks plus two complete triples trees; 89 250 and 91 CR500 sets.

Hopefully I can find the right combination, any input is appreciated, thanks.

I put a 97 CR125 KYB 46mm forks on my 87 CR500. I built spacers and bored out the hub on my gold 87 wheel for the larger axle that the 95 and later front wheel/forks use. The earlier USD's are 43 mm. A bearing kit from Allballs allow the triples to bolt on.

I am hoping the gear I bought will for the most part allow me to bolt and go, wish me luck!

Go to Allballs website, they have charts that will set up the steering stem to the frame. It makes things alot easier.
