KTM and KAW have only released the info about the bikes. New bike releases to the public for purchase will not happen until the second week of August.

How would you know. For years the bike makers have had an agreement with the AMA to hold off the release dates for new year models until the week of LL's for public sales. This was done to end the confusion at the even as the new year bike can't be run at the event. The event has also been the first public showing of the bikes. Now, I don't know about how KTM is doing it or if your "2017" is actually a 2016 FE or not, but please hold off calling me out on something I have been involved with for years with first hand knowledge. Now to be honest, I have seen a few release dates just prior to LL's, but not many. There will also be some released to the magazines for testing prior to that date as well as a few for the aftermarket manufactors to toy with, but not for customer sales.
Most dealers will not have the 2017's till mid August for release to the public and some will actually come out later in the year.

That's interesting, didn't know LL had anything to do with release dates. How long has that been going on?

And like I said, I am not sure about KTM, but was rather talking about the other bike makers and the past history over the last 30 years.

Sorry, Japanese manufacturer or KTM/Husky new model release dates have NOTHING to do with LL's. That is/has been fairly close and is purely a chance for manufacturers to show off their wares. New model releases have gotten earlier and earlier for the last 15 years. Also, It is very clear in LL rules that 2017 MY bikes are not allowed. This rule isnt new. Every year I raced LL, that fact was clear. Also, LL's is always the last week in Jul/1st week in Aug. If releases were mid-Aug, would they need this rule? Another example: RV was racing his new 2012 KX 450 at Unadilla on Aug 13th 2011. I had already owned the same bike for a month. Easy with your absolutes, because they are either untrue or outdated.

I never spoke in absolutes!
I have been involved in the bike industry for over 50 years now and I have a bit of first hand knowledge.
The man ask a question and I gave an honest answer and I have been bashed. Take a hike!

Paw Paw, the first commenter Lajnus does not live in the U.S. Probably has something to do with it.

Yes, 2017s are out in Europe already.

The beginning of may is when the first ones come in every year, even before KTM's new model announcement.

Paw paw knows his stuff and is a great contributor. Especially in the race shop forum. Don't be beating up on such a wealth of knowledge as we need him around here!

KTM 17 bikes came earlier this week to dealers in EU.
First Hondas will come 2,5 months time.. not sure when Yamaha has bikes but 2016 models been
sold out some time.

I think KTM is releasing 2017 bikes early this year in the US due to dealers being out of stock of 2016 models. As stated new models previously didn't ship until around LL but IMO it didn't really have anything to do with LL it was just a timing thing as back in the 80's LL was actually the 2nd week of august as my birthday is the 14th and I remember my birthday always being at the end of LL. Then several years ago schools moved the start dates earlier so LL dates where moved earlier and now it seems as the school dates have moved back later in August. I do remember in rare occasions though that a select few new MY bikes go to dealers before LL. IMO its a timing thing to sell more bikes. The brand that gets the new MY bikes on dealers hands first will sell them first as people are itching for a new bike.

I have based this post on no actual facts but only my opinions. I have however worked in the powersports industry since 1995.

Last year info was released on the 2016 YZ/YZF models around June 4.... so I would say we'll hear something soon.

I remember back in 92' the new Suzuki's were out before LL's and they were permitted to be raced in the mod classes. I forget when the rule was implemented that future model year bikes couldn't be raced, but I remember seeing a few of those bikes being raced there in 91'.

Here is a ride report that a guy gave in June last year about his new YZ450F.

I bought my 14 yz450 in July of 2013 and they had already been out for about a month at that point. I'd expect something in the next couple weeks
