As you all know i brought a 2015 YZ250 about a month or so ago the plan is for it to be a bit of a project wile I recover from a knee reach, then a lighter bike to get fit on before get on the big 450 again.

so far i have pretty much just stripped, cleaned and greased for a 2015 it was in a bit of a state with some basic things like chain guides, sliders chains sprockets etc, all of which will be replaced.

I have given the hubs and forks to Slosh for some machining the tubes were pretty sand blasted which is painful but i think they will look good black.

Anyway i know use love pictures

done a big order of genuine parts today don't want to get to carried away with it or break the bank as i want to make a quid on it when i sell it, but if anyone has any cool YZ250 parts they want to get rid of they think I might be interested I'm post them in here..

Cheers Chris

I would grease that steering stem while you got it apart. Mine went to corroding pretty quickly. I do not use a pressure washer and avoid getting water near that area, but it still happened. Nice bike, by the way. What type of head is that?

Agreed on the steering stem, mine used to get dirty very quick compared to my KTM. Not sure if it is exactly the same as the 09 I had but you can buy the top cap/seal part # for a 4stroke and it has a better lip on it to seal out dirt from the top bearing.

Sand the casting lines out and anodise them, might cost you an hour or two on a belt sander with a fine belt (I have one thats you are free to use) then maybe 100 bucks to get them anodised, my OEM 125 clamps came out quite nice.

Shock bottom bearing spacers and seals in backwards and the bearing was cactus I don't even know how he was riding it... Maybe I'm to picky but it wasn't close to smooth.

I don't know if it's only the two-stroke models, but my YZ250 came with the seals/spacers installed the opposite way too. The aluminum flange was behind the rubber seal. I bought that bike new. My 2011 YZ125 was assembled that way from the factory as well.

I think they do that so the aluminum collars don't fall out when you R&R the shock.

Since you're going into a lot of detail here...
What the deal with the new plastics and their mounts? Specifically where the number plates bolt to the airbox. There's a cheap square peice of steel that's embedded in the back of the plastic that just spins around when trying to remove bolts. I had to use vice grips on this crap to take the plates off. Is there a fix for this?
It's kindA funny people begged for a plastic update for a decade and they give you this complete garbage.

Yeah really strange the parts break down definitely shows the opposite to the picture in my last post with the seals retaining the spacers.

Hey mate, I see what you mean I never had any trouble with them, they are commonly used they are on my 16 WR450f to hold the mudguard on. suppose just don't over tighten them or use loctite or anything like that, I don't usually have any dramas with them.

Nice build! Just a heads up with the wiseco piston, i had one in mine yz 250 and a friend had one in his, first be sure to check ring gap because that was way tight on both our bikes and we have never had that happen with oem or vertex. Second mine made it 11h and his made it 17h. Since then i also heard about others that wont use wiseco for the same reason. Not trying to be a ass just a heads up. Bet a lot of people are gonna come tell me im wrong and wisecos fine but thats just my opinion

I wouldn't worry about Wiseco man their 2 stroke pistons anyway, I put their GP race replica pistons in the in-laws CR125 & YZ250 with no dramas. Maybe their replacement bottom ends and some 4 stroke stuff is a bit dodgy but Wiseco made a name for themselves with their 2 banger stuff, their good stuff is good.

On the pulpmx show cant remember which one they had a question about sponsors were the teams didnt use their product and he said Wiseco. I've heard the same about their snowmobile pistons. They used to be better quality then now. How was the ring gap in the wisecos you used?

You are right about their bottom end kits are junk as are hot rods. I would never let that stuff near my bike or workshop.

The YZ250 was good from the box but the CR125 was wrong, I checked it in the car while I was at the bike shop, took it back in and they gave me another. Never had a rebuilt engine fail on me, I personally use Vertex or CP but some people especially old school people will tell me they want a Wiseco piston. Maybe because back in the day they were really good, makes it hard when this many people swear against a product.

Not that I'm old or anything but when I was racing 2/'s you only ever ran Wiseco pistons! So back to Wiseco I went.
