Here's the seal I'm talking about


I also want to know if the right side crankcase cover needs to come off. I just don't want to get this thing apart and realize we don't have all the parts/tools.

Yes the cover has to be removed as the oil seal has to be installed from the rear of the cover. You should not need a special tool to install the outside seal. It can be pressed in with a socket and a vise or a press.
