All of the tests or reviews I have read on the 2013/14 CRF 450 talks about the lacking of top-end power and the need to short shift. The size of the CRF 450 and the smooth power are very appealing but I hate it when a bike will not rev.

Will a cam, porting or remap help with the top-end power?

Opinions/Suggestions?

Thanks!

Yes they r great bikes, but putting a cam , remap, pipe will make it rip , it will be like a stock kx or ktm

HAR! My '08 was pretty weak and then I ported the head, added a hi comp piston and full exhaust it was sweet. Just like a stock Kawasaki. Laughing

i rode my buddys 08 crf 450.with full fmf , and got on my 12 kawy 450 with full fmf 4.1, close in power , kawy seems snappier, and lighter, slimmer. Both big bikes, but i think the kawy is a better bike imo.and the crf is a great bike. i had a 07 crf 450 with yosh pipe. great bike

Really depends on budget, crower cam, deck head, vortex ignition with yosh pipes. the hot set up for that bike and using vp u4.4 or renegade sx4

I have a '12 which is basically the same motor which I race completely stock. I tend to rev the bike, and although it doesn't pull nearly as hard as something like a 14 YZ450, it's not like I need to short-shift it like my straight-piped Harley when I roll past the police station. Yeah, it "only" makes 52 HP, but I was still able to get to turn 1 first in the 450B class a few times this past season.

I have a 2012. To give you a simple answer, yes, a stage-2 cam, mapping, and an exhaust will get you some extended top end and prevent you from having to shift to 4th on any straight longer than a school bus.
