You can adjust the idle TPS voltage and that should help. At idle I think the standard setting is something like .4 volts. If you loosen the RPS mount screws and then move the TPS you will see different voltage readings. I would suggest only increasing that voltage by .01 volt to start with and would not go up any more than .05 volts over the original setting. As the voltage goes up the TPS sends a signal to richen the fuel mixture to the EFI controller.
Understand that if the TPS sensor is bad you will not get the up ward movement in the voltages. The service manual should help you on this.
Also understand that the popping can also be from a bad exhaust gasket at the head. Was the pipe removed without replacing that gasket?

hmm I have a '12 crf 450 that was bogging when you cracked the throttle as well. Just as that started happening I bought a vortex/tokyo mods ecu off ebay, put it on there and the bog went away and ran flawless. I recently pulled all my aftermarket stuff off because I am selling the bike, and forgot about the bog. I put the original ecu back on and the bog returned. So my buddy let me stick his '11 ecu on the bike. On the stand it has less of a bog with his, but it is still there. You have me wondering if the TPS isn't out of adjustment on mine too. I just wonder why it wouldn't bog with the vortex ecu on there though. I have the service manual, I think I am going to check mine out to be sure.

My 2011 Crf450 has all of these symptoms too. It bogs on the stand idling and pops also I know this is an old thread but did any of you guys end up figuring out the issue?

I have this bike and fitted a piggy back ECU tuner (the JD Jetting one) and it solved the problem and made the bike run much better.

Other thing to check/replace is the fuel filter inside the tank. If it's blocked it will give the symptoms you mention.

Did you like the piggyback? I was considering one for my old KX450 and ended up not getting it because of the lack of info out there.

It worked a treat for me, and was only $150. Paired with a full Leo vince race pipe and that was it. In the UK the pump gas is really high quality so you can get 100 octane straight from the forecourt. Maybe that helped too. Here it is pulling the holeshot and winning the race on a horsepower track with long straights:

For my Honda 250f I have a full dynojet system that allows me to add different maps via the laptop, and I have a Vortex on Husky 250f that is excellent too. however, I had great results on the 2012 CRF450 with just the piggy back.

I tried replacing the fuel filter, nothing. Brand new fuel pump, nothing. Also replaced the injector itself and MAP sensor. I will look into the tuner, What did you use it to change on the bike exactly? Air/fuel mixture?

It's comes with buttons on a control unit which you can use to adjust the ignition and air/fuel mixture, but they set it to what they think it should be and it tricks your main ECU into operating differently. At least, that's my understanding. It was a plug in job to a couple of places on the wiring harness.

Mine was doing the same thing of popping under deceleration and hesitating when you chopped the throttle. The JD tuner worked very well for me although I know proper tuners like the Vortex or Dynojet Power Commander are much more sophisticated and give more options.

Cool! Thank you for the info Bruneval. I just don't understand what causes bikes to do this out of the blue. I rode the thing for three years and it was perfect. I ended up buying a 2015 CRF450r a few months later anyways but my dad still rides the 11 and I'd still like to figure out how to fix the issue.

Simple thing, but have you tried a new spark plug?

Yes I did try a new plug actually. I threw many parts at that bike and none of them delivered a solution to the problem.

We even took the bike to Tokyo Mods, one of the most well known ECU tuning and repair shops in southern California and they did not fix the issue. They charged me $300 for essentially replacing an Injector after I had already done that. They did not seem very friendly and willing to help me either.

Sorry to hear that. My bike is in the UK otherwise I would let you borrow it to swap parts out until you find the issue. Must be very annoying.
