Why is my Rm85 bogging out when i give it more than 1/2 throttle in 3rd gear.......please help..A.S.A.P
Look over this whole post and go from there. 1 question, does this only happen in 3rd gear 1/2 throttle? If so it probably is something like a rich condition or not keeping it revved up enough and allowing it to loading up. The electrical system does not know what gear your in so its probably not the issue.

What kind of 2 stroke oil are you using? And mixture (ratio)? What does the spark plug color look like? Is the air cleaner clean? You say you just bought it has it always had this problem, or what has happened from when it ran right till when it started messing up?

I have extensive experience wrenching on that particular bike. It's an '83, and new to you. Are you new to riding? If you put that bike on a stand and twist the throttle through, does it still bog? "Bog" is a familiar complaint with young riders. It can mean anything, or it can mean nothing. I think you are fine in the first gears as you say, but shifting up without the speed and thus experiencing the so called bog. I don't think it's the bike. I think you need to learn how to ride it. I suspect you are shifting up through the gears without making the bike go faster. When you shift up, you need to go faster.
