Well guys I am new to the forum and I know this place is a breeding ground for 2 stroke lovers so I thought I would start off with one of these. I bought this bike about a month ago and just started working on it so tell me what you think. Sorry about the pictures they were taken on a phone but there will be more coming!

This is when I bought it. BRO4LYF.

So far just put on a killswitch ( didn't have one when i bought it lol), spring for the pipe, all new bolts, new brake pads, new plastics, FMF shorty, carb hoses, new shift lever, new grips, barpad, donuts, little bit of polishing

Still to come ( dunlops, footpegs, ignition & clutch covers, brake lever, arc levers for the bars
This week I am going to the track to do some suspension testing and get it dialed in. Thanks for looking tell me what you guys think!

The CR must have been a good selling bike in the early '00s because it seems like they are a favorite choice for new projects. Not a fan of the original black plastics but the overall bike looks nice and clean. I'm in the process of doing pretty much the exact same thing except mine was a lot worse off to start with.

The only recommendations I'd give is get a seal kit for the airbox because the boot will suck dirt, and the Mikuni carb is very temperamental. Most people will buy a Kiehin PWK Airstriker either from eBay or a retailer like JD Jetting to bring consistency to the power. Check out Thumper Talk's Honda 2-stroke forum, that has some great information and informed people who are happy to answer questions.

Here's the state of my current project. Waiting on the install of all my new bearings, refreshed suspension, and the new rims laced up.

that CR isn't too bro'd out

seriously, the aluminum framed CR's are GREAT bikes..even the earlier ones..while they may not have handled good (from what ive read) they are still built to last.

dude it had spray painted plastics no barpad and a metal mulisha sticker on it!!! hahaha bro 4 life in my opinion but I live in Temecula CA so I pretty much hate bro's and am probably the harshest about that subject. But yeah the frame is great this bike is so much fun to ride dives in and out of ruts and is actually a really easy powerband in my opinion!

Here is the current status of my new 2003 CR250, after I sold the CRF450 for it. It needed a little TLC, a lot of grease and new swing arm bushings. Can't wait to ride a two stroke after 6 years on a thumper.

My 2004 cr250 that i bought is waiting in the garage to be re-assembled once i get all the parts for it. I have to send the cylinder off to be stripped, replated and honed. The top end, tires and fork seals should be arriving today thank thankfully. I cant send the cylinder off until the top end arrives so hopefully i can get it sent off tommorrow.

When you are ready for a new seat cover, let us know. We have a few different options for your CR.

Thanks

Do any of you guys have a manual for a 2003 cr250?
I need to know the torque specs for all of the engine mounts...The top one for the cylinder, the front one, bottom one, and the one that includes the swingarm.

Just use common hand tools and common sense. I do torque the head and cylinder, head 19 ft/lbs, cylinder 29 ft/lbs. Swingarm is 65 ft.lbs. I bought a manual on line for something like $7.

Thanks CamP. I know you have a pretty good amount of knowledge on these bikes so tell me what you would do in my situation.
I bought this 03 CR250 for $950. I only rode it a little bit before tearing it apart. I'm selling my 450 and putting some money in this thing.

The tires and wheels are in good shape, so I'm sticking with those for a while.
I just replaced the fork seals but I plan on running the stock springs. I weigh 180 and ride a wide variety of terrains so I don't think it's worth trying to find something better.
I'm replacing the swing arm and linkage bearings.
I just ordered a chain and sprockets and handlebars.
I've heard good things about the Keihin Airstryker carb but what is the real benefit?
Am I going to be disappointed in the motor (compared to an 08 yz450f) if I don't do anything to it?

RE: Keihin AS, you will get way more consistent power and not have to chase jetting changes as the weather changes. You can buy a stock AS from Powersports.com for a 2000 and the jetting will be very close. You can try to find a 2000 and up YZ carb and a couple needles. Carb Parts Warehouse has one with a couple needles and mains but is the more expensive option. I wish I new about the powersports carb since that would have saved me $50. My 05 runs real well with the AS. You will be disconnectiong the TPS with all the Keihin options.

Well here is an update, thank you Motoseat for the sick seat! My review on the seat is two thumbs up forsure! Really good material and perfect fit nice color too thanks guys. Also the reason I am posting is because I had a Carburator overflow issue and would like to share it..... As soon as I turned the gas on the carb would leak, I ordered a carb kit for like 40 bucks with all new bolts needles o rings, and also new floats. Set the float height and the bike started first kick I'm super excited! Also got my suspension set up by race tech ( not completely revalved etc. just set sag and rebound/dampening) Im soooo pumped to ride this thing when I get a day off. Race tech said the BRO that had this before me had the suspension set up completely wrong (facepalm). Well tell me what you guys think Smile
