FMF Fatty,
I am sticking this pipe on my 2 stroke resto, and noticed quite a bit of slack between the end of the pipe and where the silencer slides into place? Nothing in the packaging as far as a rubber sleeve (its been 12 years but i think i remember somethng like this?) to make that seal nice and tight? Thanks for your help.
Also did we used to run compression orings between the head and the pipe? I found nothing when I removed the old rusty bills pipe. And again nothing in the FMF packaging as far as new ones either? Thanks again... Just don't want my YZ to sound like a ratty 1991 kx is all.

I had an 04 YZ250 and I also worked at FMF years ago. If I remember, where the pipe and silencer meet up there should be a rubber piece that slides over the two to form a seal.....but that wasn't supplied by FMF, it was an OE Yamaha part. Also, where the pipe slides into the head, there should be two runner o-rings that fit into the two grooves that are on the outside of the pipe right where it slips into the head. Those I believe use to be supplied by FMF.

I just ordered an FMF gnarly pipe for my 2006 yz250 and there were two o-rings inside the exhaust where it joins with the exhaust port. And like torco said there should be a rubber seal with two circle springs that helps seal the pipe and silencer together.

You guys are awesome thanks. I will get the rubber sleeve deal. I don't however remember seeing any grooves around the fat end of the pipe where it slides into the cylinder. Guess I better look again when I get home. Thanks again. Big help.

I have always tossed that rubber joint between the pipe and silencer into the trash. Run a bead of red silicone between the mating surfaces to get a better seal.

Here are some pics from yesterday. 95% done.
I do have a question again if that's cool? What do I run in the trans as far as oil?
Thanks again guys.
