I've been doing some research on switching my stock Mikuni for a Keihin PWK. I've been struggling with jetting the Mikuni right all season and heard the PWK is night and day difference for this bike!

Will a 1998 CR250 Keihin carb bolt right in? I found one on eBay but not sure if its an Air Striker or not? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-98-Honda-CR250R-CR250-CARBURETOR-KEIHIN-FU… is the link to it.

Ive found places that offer new carbs already jetted and include the throttle cable for around $225-250, but this 1998 carb is about a third of the money.

I would pass on that eBay carb, I am not sure it's the air Stryker you need, plus, that solenoid makes me think it's not right, it must be an older powerjjet carb?

I bought a new 38mm pwk air Stryker from service Honda years ago, I seem to remember it was around $150 and it was from the 2000 cr250

The whole point is you want your bike running good, so just pay the piper and save yourself the hassle of dealing with junk of eBay.

That is not a air striker.

I have a 38mm quad vent keihin carb if you want it. A lot cheaper then the on on eBay.

Like what has been mentioned above, that is not the carb that you want for your bike. The carb from a 00' cr has the correct #7 slide and is a direct bolt in. Your current throttle cable will even work just fine, when run down the right side of the frame. The stock jetting that comes in the carb will even work Ok, but I would suggest you use a Suzuki NEDW needle in #3 with a 42, pilot and 172 main. For this time of year you may need to run the needle in #4 with a 45 pilot and 175 main. I also have other jetting combos that hit harder, but this is a good overall setup.

$185 for the complete carb set up? Is that for a '00?

I ride in the 0-3000 elevation range here in western KY.

Yes, a complete brand new 00' cr250 oem Honda carb. Put the jetting that I listed in, bolt it on and ride. You do not need to use the TPS on your bike.

How much of an improvement did you notice from the switch? My buddy has an 03 cr250, and has never had to adjust the Mikuni carb once. We both ride at the same tracks together, and I always have to adjust my carb and he never touches his.

It was a huge improvement on my bike, my mikuni was terrible. It runs much smoother, cleaner and starts easier. I had tried many jetting combos, needles, everything on the mikuni and could never get it like I wanted. I should have done the PWK swap much sooner than I did. I won't say it gives it a lot more power, but it runs much better.

Anyone ever tried a lectron the the cr? I've got a 2002 250 and in the UK the lectron works out a little more expensive than the pwk but if it's worth it ill go for that instead. Could possibly work out cheaper getting the pwk from over there though looking at it!

My bike starts great, first kick every time when cold. It idles just fine, and revs fine when idling. But when I'm riding, it seems like it wants to cut out about mid way through the power. Its got a fair amount of "splooge" and my plug is always wet/black from running rich, even when I set the carb to the factory specs for my conditions.

I ride woods, and usually tight stuff. My mikuni would always load up with a lot of spooge. I never was successful in making the mid throttle right and leaning out the idle-1/4 throttle to eliminate the spooge. The Keihin made that much better. I still believe my bike has room for improvement but it runs pretty good and I don't HAVE to mess with it now if I don't have time.

I order a stock 2000 cr250 pwk carb from Honda and it came with a notched #7 slide witch made my 02 cr250 run like shit. Order the flat slide and never looked back

From what ive read this seems like the best place to buy the carb for these cr's. What carb did you end up buying for your bike? I'm not sure on which one fits the best or if I should get 36 or 38mm

*If you have a 2002 or 2003 CR250, you will need the 38mm LONG body PWK without TPS. These are the stock OEM carbs from the 2000 CR250, or you can purchase from JD.
*If you have a 2004-2007 CR250, you will need a 38mm SHORT body PWK with TPS. These are from late model YZ's, RM's and KX's. You will need to fabricate the wiring harness to connect to the the stock Honda Sumitomo TPS connector on your bike. Or, there is a guy on TT who sells complete harness kits for the YZ, RM and KX carbs which makes the installation clean and easy.

Thanks for the quick reply. I see a cheap carb on eBay off a 99 kx 250. It looks like it has a TPS. Is that late model enough?

Yes, the '99 KX250 uses the SHORT body PWK which fits your '06 CR250 perfectly. Additionally, the '99 KX250 PWK comes with a #7 slide which can be cheaply and easily machined into a leaner #7.5 or #8 slide if you find the #7 to be slightly rich.
The easiest route for connecting the TPS is to purchase a wiring harness from the guy on TT. He offers a complete kit with genuine Sumitomo connectors installed. Just tell him which specific carb you have and you'll be set.

I still haven't been able to buy a new carb yet, seems every time I start to get ahead on the bike something else comes along that I have to replace.

I just downloaded a free copy of the service manual and have been jetting the carb according to the service manual for each day I ride. Its pretty simple to set the carb up, once you get the hang of it at least.

I had a 38mm PWK on my 02 CR125.... I didn't like it.

Spoke to Chad Watts and he said that they tried both carbs (tmx and pwk) when he was at Factory Honda and they could get the TMX working better for that bike than the pwk.

I ended up sending both of my stock TMX carbs (02 CR125 and 03 CR250) to Chad Watts for a refurbish, port, and top secret mod for less than two PWKs......

The general consensus is that the TMX is capable of making more peak power than the PWK, but the PWK provides better roll-on acceleration and low end power.

Exactly. Which is why the TMX is a sloppy mess on a CR250 yet it runs great as the stock carb on the YZ125. You don't spend as much time going on/off in small throttle openings on a 125 as you do a 250.

Good info, I was about to throw down on a pwk for my 03 cr125. I need the cylinder and head modified so I might just send all that to chad, going to inquire with him.

$180 for media blasting, porting, inspection, and reassembly. I ended up needing a new slide on my 250, which I would have never known. He's a wealth of knowledge. There is a D shaped o-ring that he said off the assembly line can partially block a jet, so part of that 180 IMO is having him set everything up the way it was designed to work.

Installed a torque wing in my tmx and haven't looked back since
