Picking one up tomorrow. Planning on gutting it and was wondering if there are any trick parts that help improve it.

A lot of guys seem to have a PC pipe and silencer and Vforce reeds. I've never owned one, but you can't go wrong with those two things on any two stroke.

2000 yz250 flywheel. In the mxa test they said it was the #1 hop up since it's lighter . Bike was pretty perfect apart from that according to them.

I had a 2000 model yz 250. They are excellent bikes. To make that bike race ready all you need is a pro circuit pipe/silencer. Revalved suspension unless you weigh less than 160lbs. And 1 tooth lower gearing. Maybe a v-force or Boyeseen rad valve..

That bike has a nice torquee powerband with a strong topend pull, supple suspension, and good stable/predictable handling.
Your gonna love it...Great bikes.

There's quite a thread on Thumper Talk in the Yamaha 2 stroke section regarding pipes. The OEM late 2005+ pipe seems to be very highly regarded by most of the users.

The top mod seems to be getting the head cut for whatever type of fuel you're going to run, then getting the jetting just right. Seems like Yamaha hit on a really good combo when that motor first came out in 1999- not a lot of stuff needs to be done for the bikes to run really well.

I was wrong by the way: it's the 2002 you that needs the lighter 2001 flywheel, not the 2001 that needs the 2000. Sorry.

FMF SST pipe and silencer + VForce intake ..... more power from Bottom to Top and a ton of over rev.

I have to run 50/50 100+ race gas and high test pump gas or it pings.
