There's a nice looking '91 KX125 for sale in my area, bikes look almost new, has Öhlins fork/shock on it and it looks like it has been in good hands. The ad says all bearings are okay (no gap or loose stuff) and that the bike runs good. The asking price is also okay, for such a year/model.

My quest is, do anyone of you guys have any experience on this bike and what's your take on it, good and bad (reliability, engine, gearbox, ergo's etc).

How's the bike compared to a CR and YZ from '91?

Note: The bike would probably not be used very much, but would get out on the track once in a while.

As I recall it was a solid bike.....not as fast as a Honda motor wise but worked good. Check around the footpegs and lower frame rails for cracks.

The 90 model was the first year for the perimeter frame and inverted forks. I recall the mags saying it was pretty atrocious. By 91 they had some of the issues worked out. I had a 92 model and really liked it although I was mostly doing vintage racing then. 1993 was the year of the blown cranks and top ends. Race gas was a must to keep the 93 alive. Seeing that bike in the condition it is with Ohlin's suspension makes me want to know the price. At the time that would have been about $2500.00 worth of suspension components alone. Sweet looking setup. I have all the MXA magazines from that year and they were always really good about pointing out the good and bad points of the bikes. Plus they always had jetting , gearing and suspension tips(not that it would apply to the Ohlins). If you buy it and need me to scan some of the stuff, let me know.

Well the Kayaba forklegs on the 1990 KX was gold coloured and it's easy to put on ohlin stickers and say it's ohlin forks and if the sealing holder is silver coloured it's a Kayaba
In 91 the legs were blue and the holder silver.
