Can you guys recommend some good sites to buy cameras and gear. I am going to pick up a Nikon D40x and want to get a decent deal. Thanks!

3/19/2008 6:36 PM B&H is good and reliable. But I prefer a more friendly buying place. At B & H I feel like a # and its customer service is lacking.
I deal with Midwest Photo Exchange 95% of the time. They are friendly and I have a great relationship with my salesmen. They are based in Ohio and don't have those stupid hours that B&H does. Their prices are real close to what B&H's are but they do not have everything on their web site like B&H but they do have almost everything.. I know that everything they sell of Epson is free shipping. m http://www.mpex.com/ m Homey

3/19/2008 6:56 PM I'm a big fan of both B&H and Midwest, I'd recommend either one.

3/20/2008 11:59 AM B&H runs the store off the Hasidic (SP?) Jewish calendar. So they close early on fridays (sometimes like noon or 1pm), are closed on saturdays and nearly every holiday on their caliendar. It's been a real pain in the butt becuase I often will go into NYC to go photo equip shopping when making a big purchase, but I usually want to go when they are closed.
I buy alot of my equipment from Tristate Camera in NYC, they are about 12 blocks south from B&H. They are often significatly less cost on some times, you just have to be sure you ask for USA model items as they carry alot of grey market non-warrantied photo gear. Nathan Crisman Photography

4/15/2008 3:48 AM B&H is my choice. You'll always be able to find a lower advertised price somewhere in NY but be careful, you get what you pay for.

5/17/2008 12:57 AM Dell has some pretty good deals. I just checked against B&H for the Canon Rebel XTi, and Dell is about $75 cheaper.
