What laptop to edit go pro videos with?

Hey guys, wondering if some of you who have the gopro 3 or are up on computers and stuff can help me out. I'm looking to get a gopro 3 and a new laptop to edit the video with. My current laptop is from 2008 and it still works great but I have a feeling since it can't even handle 720p playback I'm guessing it will choke hardcore trying to do anything with the gopro footage. I'm wondering what kind of money I need to spend to get a laptop that can handle editing and playing the stuff I'll be recording. Do I need to spend 2 gs or would I be ok spending around a grand. Obviously I would like to spend as little as possible but I'm comfortable spending 1200 ish maybe up to 1500 max ideally. Anyone have any suggestions for a solid laptop for my needs?
