Not a rare bike its either a GT 80 with lights removed or a MX 80. Yamaha made lots of them but they can still sell for $500 plus if in rally nice condition. They were Yamaha's entry to a low cost reliable beginner bike and sold really well.

Exactly 17 cents. My brother and I both had those. He had a 76 GT-MX80 and I had a stripped down 74 GT 80 that had been cleaned up after being in a garage fire. Why 17 cents? Because that's how much gas I put in mine every day after school before heading to the sandpit. Got a quarter for milk break at school (8 cents for chocolate milk) and filled the tank as far as my change would get me. Run it dry and flip it to reserve for the trip home. Depending on how much fun I was having, we'll just say I ended up pushing it home more than once.Smile

That thing is priceless and at the same time a complete turd! I swear it would have ran on bacon grease. More than once there wasn't any 2 stroke oil around so it got a little of whatever. Good times!

^^^*Well that one was priceless for you Newmann. I remember those times, albeit a little later. Anyone remember popcorn in school for a dime or something?

Milk money, my ass, Newmann! You were probably buying milk in bulk and selling it by the cup! TongueLaughing

That pretty much mirrors my early youth. I could run a variety of bikes on my after school jobs, for so very little. Bikes that basic, could be maintained so easily. And petrol costs were just a matter of not eating a vanilla slice at lunchtime.

I feel so lucky that I grew up in the time I did, with so many places to ride in my tiny little suburb between the river and the mountains. Plus the Golf Course we had / have. No greens, tees or fairways were ever damaged by us, but we sure as hell made use of the 2 road gaps on Leonay Parade. I look at them now (20ft Vertical faces) and I wouldn't attempt them on a modern bike - but that's down to me being old, damaged and wimpy, I guess. Woohoo
