At one point Al Baker took control over FMF, I think thats when Donnie started Roost Factory.

Does anyone remember when it first started with Don and Tony Rodgers from E.C. Birts Precision Cycle? It was in a little place in Harbor City right off of PCH,not far from where he was lately.

As a kid I would ride my bicycle down to E.C. Birts shop on Hawthorne Blvd in Lawndale every day after school and just hang out,then he moved to Artesia Ave. that is when Tony Rodgers and I met.Then Tony started with Donnie and they would cruise
Hermosa Ave. down at the beach on Friday nights sometimes in that old Blue chevy van with
"Uncle Donnies Flying Machine Factory" hand painted on the sides WOW I cant beleive I remember those days,I guess i didnt
inhale.

Cruising the Ave was the thing to do back then, good times.

I still had one of the old "Precision Cycle" jerseys with the micrometer as the P in Precesion till my ex-wife got mad at me
and threw it away along with my original orange and yellow "FMF" jerseys from 1977.

I worked there welding pipes. sat next to cliff lett welding our asses off. steve and bob haag and bob oliver were grinding clys. tony rogers was the mgr. jim macdonald (mac) was our boss in the pipe making. lotta talent floated in and out of that shop.

Emler founded FMF. Emler had some issues and sold FMF to Al Baker. Emler and Baker reportedly didn't play nicely in the sandbox together and Emler started RF. Baker died in a plane crash (RIP Al, you were a badass) and Emler re-purchased FMF. RF was then rolled back into FMF. I could be wrong, but that's my recall.

The guy I first wrenched for in Maryland (Shawn Player) moved to Cal and became the #2 man at FMF.....he wanted me to go west with him.....have always regretted not going!

Anyway...... The way I was told was FMF went to the wife( #1 or 2?) in the divorce......Roost Factory became the new FMF name for after a few years went back to FMF....dont remember the return details. I went out and visited Shawn and the new FMF shop and old shop where the dyno was. I filled my van with pipes and took them up to Hangtown the flood year Henry & Dowd won. After talking to Donny about doing suspension he offered to let me set up my suspension shop in the dyno building and live up stairs.....and the plan was that after I built reputation the suspension business would be absorbed into FMF........after I went back to Illinois to get my stuff and come back west Donnie changed his mind....... and hired a guy from Race Tech instead.
