only made 465 in 81 & 82, then 500 in 83, 84, I would say its an 81-83, need to run vin# to be sure. has nice single side air box, looks like a nice project, parts availibility could be tough. If I came across it, I would be just dumb enough to buy it!

1982 RM 465 based on the lower legs of the forks (non casted on lugs) and the non aluminum rear struts (83 up had aluminum struts)

If it´s a 465 and 5 speed it is a 1981, if it´s a 4 speed it is a 1982 model.

1982. Square front number plate. Definitely not an 83. There should be an Aspca or DYFUS for vintage dirt bikes

Those open class Suzuki Floaters are fun bikes. I agree with MP, that's an '82. You can join FullFloater.com on FB, lots of good Suzuki guys there.

All the plastic except the right-hand sidecover (I could be mistaken, it could be the left, but ONE of the two sidecovers has been discontinued), are still available from Suzuki.

A surprising number of OEM parts are available, although I believe the cranks may be drying up. GREAT suspension with none of the pinging and carb issues the other Japanese open bikes of that era had, just the motor may be too mellow for some people. These year big RMs are really ride and enjoy bikes.

Cool score, esp. with the single-sided airbox. That appears to be a Stilmotor works RM replica rear fender, also rare and valuable. Someone loved that bike.

I had raced a RM and a 84 Honda a few times bak in the say.im sure the CR needed suspension set up but there was a world of differnce between the red bike and the yellow bike. I loved the Suzuki even though it didn't idle. No idle was the dumbest thing Suzuki ever did

1982. The 83 had adjustable aluminum rear struts and that nasty yellow front fork coating that is almost impossible to remove. That one has a cool twin air single side airbox with extra holes drilled in it and that was the better airbox of all the aftermarket ones at the time. The 83 also had the duel link front brake set up that this one does not have.

Allright, thank for the help guys.
Friend of mine owns it. Bought it for 100 euro a while a go.
Not sure what to do with it yet.
Knowing the model year helps.

I remember the struts being aluminum on the 83 bikes but not adjustable. Was that on the Open bike only?

Now you have me thinking, I know they changed them to aluminum in 83 but now I cant remember if they were adjustable or if just the aftermarket ones were adjustable. So I just checked and the stock struts were not adjustable.

Suzuki standardized on aluminum struts across the entire line in '83. Adjustable aluminum struts were a popular aftermarket hop-up of the time. I have a set on my '82 RM250. Mainly these were useful because the front forks had noticeably less travel than the rear (12" was claimed, more like 10.75" travel in the front; the rear had a full 12" of travel). The 125s and 250s in particular sat low in the front because of this. Another reason to go with Showas or the '84 RM KYBs.
