Following up on a request from Parks65 and in another thread, here are three of my near mint all OEM KX80s - 1990, 1991 and 1992 models.

All were sourced here in California and ridden by "mom" out in the desert. They are in near mint condition and I picked them all up over the past few years. These bikes have never really been been taken apart, and are barely crashed or dropped (if ever). The frames have almost no rub or wear marks and the tires are original.

I have some light clean up work to do on each (such as replacing grips where Bark Busters were installed or removing aftermarket decals), but these are otherwise super nice little minibikes from the '90s.

I also have a 1989 KX 80 but it was too buried in my crap to dig out.

Awesome collection! Those were the most agressive looking 80 bikes of those years and I wanted one really bad as a kid. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, thanks for sharing! I had the 1990 big wheel. My first new bike. I loved that bike.

I really wanted that picture to be of me back when I was in 7th grade! Oh man.....my heart still aches!

I ended up with a brand new XR100. It was a 100R actually...lol, whatever the R was for...it sure wasn't racing. Truth be told, I couldn't have handled a KX80 and was better off on that XR100!

Remember Spud Walters on the DK KX80 circa 1990? There was a Dirt Rider feature on that bike and I must have read it 100 times.

I wanted a 88-90 KX80 so bad. I never liked the 86-87 but I rode an 89 or 90 and it made my YZ80 seem hopeless. Funny thing though was that it wasn't the horsepower difference but the suspension and brakes, and overall handling.

Bummer man. I just saw something on Facebook with a pic of a sad kid. It said something like, "the look on your face when you ask for a yz125 and your parents get you a ttr125". Pretty funny. XR100 can be a fun (and safe) bike tthough. Good for learning. Wink

Yes I used to hang out with Spud a little bit! He went to my high school. My buddy bought his DK bike. I rode it a few times. That thing was a rocket!

Spud, Jake Windham and I carpooled in my dad's shitty S-10 truck to the 1993 Washougal national back in the day. I have some trackside video of Spud leading Damon Bradshaw (for about a half a lap) in the 125cc qualifier. I was pumped.

Jake and Spud rode at my home track a few times. I was always so impressed by those guys. I was happy just to be able to hang out a few times. Cool dudes for sure.

Yeah I didn't know what a two stroke hit was like. Well, I take that back. My first bike was a Rockford Tora 60cc if anyone here knows what the hell that is. I "thought" I knew about two strokes. So my dad got me the xr100r and it was NOT a KX, but coming from that old Rockford it was still way better.

A few months later my buddy's dad buys him a 1989 YZ80. I couldn't wait to ride it. My first ride I remember him trying to explain it to me and I'm like, "yeah yeah yeah." Needless to say I about looped out, feet flying up over my head on a wheelie. Suddenly I knew that I didn't know sh*t and was kinda relieved I didn't have the KX.

But then I fell in love with his YZ and still wanted the KX later. Sorry for the rant, I just can't see that era KX80 and not have all those memories come back.

I remember that article. Good stuff! Was it Dirt Rider, or Super Moto Cross? Either way, it was cool. There is a 1987 KX80 for sale here locally with a "code II" seat cover. I assume that is the DK bikes?

I was tempted to buy it, but the the bike is rough though. If it were an 88 or newer I probably would though! Thanks for the kind words...

That's awesome.... Seeing that pic took me right back, I had an 89 KX100 (the big wheel was 100cc and the small wheel an 80cc in the UK back then)
Good times, did my first ever race on that bike... Wish I still had it.

absolutely blown away by your collection. Seeing that 91' just brought back a flood of memories for me!
thank you so much.

as the story go's my dad decided in 1991 we needed to leave Modesto,CA and moves somewhere better for my sister and I to grow up as crime was growing in the central valley at a rapid pace.
before we moved dad took me to look at a kx 60 at the time because i was pretty small still and had been riding a pw 80 and i could touch the ground on the 60. I begged and begged for that 60 but about two months after looking at the thing we moved to Idaho and I guess luck was on my side when I came home from school one day and dad said we were driving to go pick up my new KX 80.
I was super stoked and still couldn't touch the ground on it when we bought it but I guess he figured I'd grow quick and we could bypass the 60 all together. I loved that bike more than any other i've ever had! rode the wheels off of it.
It was basically brand new, a lady had bought it for her son and he had gotten himself into some trouble so she decided to sell it and I know we got it cheap!

I remember wanting a kx80 and my dad making me sell my yamaha bw 80 and getting an xr100 instead of a kx80 I broke the spokes on that bike on the rear wheel every week. It was the fastest way to sell it and get the 1993 kx80 big wheel. I remember my first day on it on the street to get to the trails and it was dead I would shift gears and their was no power! I was so bummed and then i rang the gear out a lil longer and boom powerband kicks in front tire comes up my eyes are watering and im hanging on for dear life and i stop and think to myself holy shit this is the best bike ever!!

Very nice collection. I was baptized into motocross with an 81 air cooled KX with the first year brad Lackey rear fender mounted plates and the 6.7" of (supposedly) INSANE travel and unishock. Come to find out that after I bought it off the showroom floor it was sprung and dampened for about 130lbs of rider and I weighed 85llbs with all my gear on. I raced it at Louden NH in flood weather conditions and roots in the middle of muddy rutty whoops and it tossed me off on my ass twice in the first moto...... Ouch!
