Retro 2003 KX 125

Edited Date/Time 1/28/2015 7:07am
So seeing all of your guys splitfire replicas got me thinking as I was looking around for some new graphics for my 03 KX 125. I have had almost every set of team monster graphics on this bike and I am starting to get burnt out on the look. So I got in contact with Frank at evomx about doing a set of 97 Splitfire graphics for the 2003 plastic. I am waiting for the preview from Frank and will post it as soon as I get it. Let me know if you guys want to see the build and I'll post pics as the project progresses

I'm in, I would be very interested to see the graphics and the build.

I should have the preview of the graphics Monday or Tuesday of next week so I will post them as soon as I have them. This is going to be a slow build as this is my current race bike as well while my 250 is out of commission. One thing that I have been looking of r but can not seem to find in the power vave covers that pro circuit made to replace the plastic on the warps all the time on these bikes.

Its a 2003 which I thought they made a cover for the side. I may be incorrect

Looks good! Do you have black rims for the bike? What seat cover will you be using?
6/17/2014 4:23pm
I do not have the rims yet but I will be getting those shortly. I am going to either us a green or black gripper or possibly a black with green ribbed seat I havent decided yet. I am going to be doing some other things as well. Switching from an fmf to a procircuit pipe and obviously getting the shorty304 to go with it.

I will keep this updated as I progress with it. I am going to pull the bike apart this weekend to paint the frame as I stuck the ring in the engine last weekend and the motor is apart right now anyways. I'll post pics as I get it painted this weekend.

So after alot of racing and other projects I am starting to get back to this project. I have recently been looking at some of the old team photos and I keep coming back to the chrome 1996 bikes from supercross. I know that these wee painted by Troy Lee and the paint did not last very well. So I have been playing with the idea of wrapping the plastic with chrome vinyl. I had some old plastic laying around and wanted to see if this is something I even want to try so I went over to autozone and found some 8" wide chrome graphics for $20. I figured what the heck at least I will have an idea what it looks like before I decide to pay some one to do it. If you look at the pictures the quality of the lay on the number plate and fork guards is not the best but I am no professional. Keep in mind that the front fender and radiator shrouds would be chrome as well.

I forgot about the chrome bikes. Do it. Looks great

Its definitely a good thing I didn't order the 97 graphics yet then. Although I think my brother may do a 97 replica on his 2003. He thought the chrome looked gaudy.

Yea I am getting some plastic comin. I am going to use 2005 and up kawasaki plastics as the green is br8ghter and I plan on riding this and the flo green fades bad. I tried it with a 2003 kit and within a few months it turn a funky green

Go the 97 look..........I'm probably a bit bias though.

I can vouch for the quality of Franks kits, they are holding up great. And the gripper seat he designed works a treat.

This bike looks like a lot of fun, I am busy with an 03 Mike Brown replica. It's great remembering these 2 Strokes. I personally love riding a 125, screaming around. Have fun with your build, I will keep checking to see how it goes. Mitch has made some sick machines over the years. I agree that the monster is a bit over used so Good choice on trying something different. Will definitely turn heads at the track.

So I finally go this project back on its feet. I got my number plates in last night and the shroud graphics should be here today. I still need to get wheels and some other stuff to finish the look off. But here are the number plates.

Well I got my graphics this afternoon and was a bit dissapointed to find out that Evo sent me a kit for the 97. Im trying to get in touch with them now to find out if we can get this swapped out
4/6/2017 9:26am
Well got in contact with EVO yesterday and they are sending me the proper ones at no cost! From what I see from the 97 kit the quality is amazing and will probably be getting a set for 250AF after this.

Here's a preview. Should have the motor back in tomorrow night and the rest of it back together then as well. Will post a pic of it all together soon.
