Thought this might be interesting to hear from some of you, brought to mind by a recent purchase of something that I wanted for a specific reason and paid more than probably most people would (or in this case, more thanh anyone of EBay was willing to). So, what parts or bits of old school trickness would you suck it up and pay a premium for to add to or complete a project? Something someone else even into bikes would perhaps shake their head a bit about?

I have a line on a pair of Mugen forks for my 1977 CR125. I'll see them this weekend and report back. Not cheap at $1100, but ultra sano!

There are sooooooooo many things I've overspent on, or would overspend on. Lots of stuff that started with "mini elsinore"! Lots of stuff with funny Japanese writing on it too (Mugen). Some of my projects started life as a single part that I scammed from somewhere, either a swapmeet, internet buddy, salvage yard or Evilbay. Some projects just sat for years as a pile of parts scattered about until I found that ever elusive rear shock positioned Thor CR125 swingarm (Steve Wise Replica) or the actual Fox watercooled head for my Pat Richter Replica RM125. A spare hand made OW27 alloy tank so I can have my bike setup as Gerard Rond raced it as well as being able to swap colors like Hannah and Glover raced them. Howerton's SR500, just because I didn't want anyone else to get it............................the list goes on.
Question is, what the hell did you just blow the bank on FTE?? We need to know.

Oakley made the cam grip... I use use them myself, they where a little bigger than the other grips, it fit my hands better.

A complete taillight for a 1972 Suzuki TS125. I've tracked a few on E-bay, saw the last one go for $162 and the plug end of the wire was cut-off. I quit at $100. TS125 was my first bike and that light was only used i n 72.

Definitely cheaper than the 17.5 piggyback Fox Factory Shox I found a couple years ago.
Fortunately I've found some good deals over the years to even out the reamers on items I had to have.
I'm wondering if the grips could be forms for copies.

I probably wouldn't hesitate to buy HRC engine covers, a Mugen cylinder, or an aluminum fuel tank for my CR125. Remember that clean 1989 CR250 somebody posted on here a couple weeks ago? It was on the Inland Empire craigslist. I was this close to buying it. I emailed the guy about coming to look at it and he said he had just sold it the day before. Why did I want it? Because I didn't want anyone else to have it. Poor thing is probably in the hands of some Mulisha kid who spray painted it black, shaved the seat, and cut grab holes in the air box. I tried to rescue it, but failed. I couldn't scrape the cash together in time. Felt bad about the whole thing for a few days. I was going to pay the guy exactly what he wanted for it, too. All I have is this picture.

I bought the HRC swingarm and NOS Mugen top end for that bike. Spent over three times as much for those parts than I did for the whole bike.

Paid $17.77 on EBay for 2 of those mid 80's Showa fork stickers (the orange ones that the factory Honda guys ran on their forks).
In 1986 I would have paid anything to have those stickers on my forks. Oh wait, back then I did not have any money so I guess I would have just kept dreaming.
And today if I ever see a 82-85 works Honda RC 125 or 250 for sale, I would have to tell my family that we are going to be living in the car because I would be selling the house to buy one....

There was a pair of those for sale a while back(probably still are). I think they were asking $70,000.00 each. O'Mara's RC125 and Hansen's RC250.

Well then I guess I could just get a second mortgage instead of selling the house. Were they on EBay? The real thing?
Any idea how many are still even in existence? I have heard of/ seen numerous old works bike in the various private collections (Primm, etc) and museums, but there does not seem to be many of the early 80's Hondas around?

Well I've been drooling over a reproduction Maico 490 Reed cylinder for $2000 & then I'd have to buy a piston, reed setup & reed expansion chamber. also a PVL to go with it for a total of about $4,000.

After reading all the above posts it reminds me of a time I saw Gallagher (the watermelon smashing comedian) and he noted the difference between women shoppers and men shoppers.
He said " women will pay $10 for a $30 item that they do not need, because it's on sale.
but a man will pay $100 for a $20 item that he needs" Back in the day when I was racing......
