Hey does anyone have pic's or some really special memories from the 70's at the Olando Sports Stadium? My parents owned the concessions there, my brother (Robert Westerman) and many friends (Alan Ashlock, David and John Rienholt to name a few) raced there for several years.

Tell him I still remember him going head first into the dirt at Orlando Sports stadium in the back section when an old tree stump dug up in the whoops. He hit the tree stump and was riding on the front wheel trying to save it for about 20 feet then head first into the track. He got up slow after that one.

Hi Teri. It was good to meet you at Sunshine MX on Saturday. Quite a fun day.

Robert still has some skills. He just needs a bike. I figure it's in his future at some point!

I rode the Sports Stadium only once. It was in '74 at the NMA Nationals. A buddy of mine and I came over from Texas and ran both the 100 and 125 expert classes. He rode CR's (sleeved down for the 100) and I rode YZ's. He was having seizure problem with both so I helped him break them in after we got to the track. These classes were run back-to-back so our dad's were on the starting line warming up our 125's while we ran the 100's. Moto 1 in 100's we take off and run out 1st and 2nd with a large lead. BOOM, there goes my buddies 100 so I take the moto win. Moto 2 in 100 was another win for me. In moto 3 I was leading and threw a chain. Don't remember how I finished but too a stinking second overall. Moto 1 of the 125 satrted the same with my buddy and I running away from the field then BOOM, there goes his 125. Before he blew up he had splashed muddy water on my goggles. As I came around to thke the white flag, the spots on my goggles tricked me into thinking it was the checker, so I take my goggles off and go past the finish and take the next 180 right hander. About that time second place blasts past me. I'm WTF? Then I can clearly see the white flag. I take back off and catch the leader, only to fall in the last left before the finish and getting stuck under my bike. Don't remember how I finished. Moto 2 I think I ran away with it. While on the line for moto 3 I'm reving my bike and it's shaking like crazy. Turns out my swing arm bolt had siezed and had wollowed out the hole in my frame. Too late to do anything about it, so let's go racing. Talk about a squirly bike, coming over that huge mountain of a jump, I had no idea where the bike would go. I finished near the front but don't remember where. Took another second overall. Fun trip and a rough track (sand!). I had already won the World Mini in the 125 Expert class that year so I was racking up some series points. Took a double (100 and 125) class win in Houston later in the summer at the World Mini Championships.

Glen, I raced against you a number of times when you came to the north/central Tx tracks. I grew up in Duncan, Ok and had my license from 74-78. We frequently went to DFW area tracks, and to Whitney for the bigger events there.

In the past couple of years, I've also raced with Mark Pledger at the Old Timers events out here on the west coast. He's living in Central California.

Hey Mark. These web sites are great. Take a look at oldschoolmxers.com. It's a Houston based site and mxcrazy.com is North Texas based. Tell Pledger hello for me. The "buddy" I'm talking about in my original post is Bo Koch. Remember him?

Oh yea...remember him well. Do you know what happened to Dave Boles or Mike Jones?

If I bump into Pledger at an OT's race this summer/fall I'll tell him hello for you.

Cool sites! I'm going home (OK) this summer for a family reunion...hope to ride some of the North TX tracks while we're there.

I know I am getting a mis-quoting rep, but I think #182 next to your brother dave is Curt Shambley.

And in the other pics, talking of Tea Pot and Herb Doan. Does anyone remember Smilin Joe?
