Seen a Craigslist ad for a Yamaha dirt bike for $150.

Here's the picture from the ad

I figured it would be easy to part it out on eBay and make a few bucks until I sent the link to a buddy of mine in Maryland. He told be to be careful that it looks like Tim Ferrys old bike. So I go in touch with noleen and the guy Jake told me that this stuff happens all the time, guys call them up claiming they have Tim Ferrys race bike.

He put me in touch with Clark Jones and I sent him a few pictures. Noleen knows they built this bike but I'm waiting on confirmation on who it belong to. I'm going to be stoked if this is an ex race bike. Fingers crossed!

Here's a few things I found on the bike.
-Every open seam is welded on the frame.
-noleen silencer and pipe
-same frame guards as pictures I found
-ported cylinder with Noleen's N engraved on the left side
-applied upper triple clams
-answer eastern bars
-all the hardware on the engine is Allen head
-same seat cover and graphics

******Warning pictures are of intense neglect

I hope it is his bike, it would be a very cool find!

Not on topic so much, but I know people will check out this neat thread. I need a pair of those red side panels to build a yz125 like I had in 1998. If anyone has a pair or knows where to get them, Id appreciate the help.

If I build this bike I will need a set too.

Let's hope for two pairs then. I'll step back and wont bid against you for the first set if they come up as this build is more important for MX history than mine.

And I should be getting the red rear fender from Italy soon, but I'm not going to say I have it until I'm actually holding it and know its the right piece.

No worries. Worse case scenario I will just paint them.

How incredibly cool . It would be cool to hear the story of how the bike went from a high end race machine to what looks like a piece of barn furniture.

I had a 98 YZ that noleen reworked the suspension and the motor for me and it was stupid fast. I'm still trying to get the bike back from my college roommate that I sold the bike to 15 years ago. Smile

That would be a fun bike to restore.

After I finish the 04 crf250 I have on the bench I will do a full rebuild on the bike. A very slow correct rebuild.

Nice find! Looks like a 96 or 97? In 98 it got larger rear disc like the 250 above.

Regarding red plastics I found a source when looking for a red front fender for my ex Bob Moore/Eric Camerlengo 97 race bike. Maico used red YZ plastics back in 00, here you can find red rear fender at least.

Still waiting on confirmation but while I wait I pulled the engine out of the frame then pulled the cylinder.

Fully ported with a hot rods crank. Definitely needs to be re-plated. The crank looks brand new. Also found the clutch basket and clutch are new, I think someone rebuilt it right before it sat.

I think thats a cracked left case in the last pic of the crank. Looks like it might be able to be welded though. Whoever rebuilt it did a poor job.. all that sealant around the cylinder base gasket.

I don't think it's a crack honestly, it's only 3/8 of an inch. I'll get a better pic. I think it's in the casting.

And you are correct on the poor job done on the rebuild... No gaskets on the engine. Just a ton of yamabond glue.

Any updates? Is Noleen by any chance "cast" into your Cylinder Head?

Well, I'm resurrecting this thread because i just bought the bike. I've already contacted Throttle Jockey about graphics. The engine rebuild, complete stripping and repainting/complete resto will begin now. This won't be a showpiece. It will be really nice and raced in the Sunshine State VMX Series.

This will be fun!

YZ 96-01 rear fender

This one looks like it should fit. I doubt Maicos budget allowed for unique or modified YZ molds. The front fender is an exact copy of the yz.

If all else fails just paint them. Pro circuit was painting a lot of their plastics. In fact I have a set of sidepanels from 99 that were painted black. Troy lee also were running some painted plastics a year or so ago.

Might be the best option. I'll never find side panels to match the fender, so I'll be painting those anyway.

I have the red rear fender I got from Italy that I'm willing to let go of and here is a link to a used left red plate on ebay. Dont know why it's only the left one, its frustrating, as I was looking to do a red rear yz as well.
