Mini Elsinore,
I only knew of Von Thomas from the Bridge City, Port Authur area.. Von was in Kevin Jones, Bob Waldron's class from the Pleasure Island Mx track. Kevin and Von were sponsered by Golden Triangle Yamaha, and both had custom yz-80 c and d models. Kevin was number 6 and his bikes were painted red. I can not remember Von's number but his bikes were painted white. Bob Waldron had 2 xr-75's one was modified for the 105 class, custom red and blue in colors. I herd that Kevin was killed in a car accident, Von joined the USMC, and Bob is a Vet, in north Texas.

Mini Elsinore, Yes Von's mom was a very nice looking lady for it being back in the 70's Her name was Ellane. His dad name was Bob. My dad worked with Kevin's, Von's , and Bob's dad at BF Goodwhich in Orange Texas. Von' also had a hot sister named Rene. It is funy we still remember hot women from the 70's lol. What is you real name? I am trying to place you, because I am sure that we pitted close together also. Hope to get a chance to talk with you someday about the old days.

Troy was fast. Hope he is doing well.

Von Thomas' family was awesome. Port Arthur seems to raise 'em right.

Hey Mario stumbled across this post I don't have any photos or videos of Troy but I do have his j&b 125. He is doing well when I see him he pops into T&S cycle in groves every so often.

I could not recall whether the J&B elsinore ran a stock swingarm, but the CR100 appears to be stock. There were 2 or 3 different "lay down" brackets used by different shops, but the J& B appears to be about the same angle as the FMF kit. No air caps? Both bikes have excellent racing provenance----outstanding!
Cheers.

Both ours used the stock swing arm. I can take some closer pics of my frame for you. He had the stock caps on his bike but a hole was drilled and tapped for a schrader valve in the fork tube behind the number plate. I can take pics ok that as well.

Ralph's 100 has a square tube swing arm on it. Not sure of brand, maybe C&J. You can see it in the pic. Paint sure looks slick...Wink

Very cool and thanks for the info! Those bikes were/are wicked----and the intimidation factor was huge back in the day!
I still remember seeing Troy's set-up in the pits and dragging my old man down to look at them. I'm sure his reply was, "looks expensive to me" or words to that effect. LOL.

I'm still in limbo weather I want to race it or not when I'm done with it, everyone talks about how bad ass those bikes were and makes me want to ride it. My wife keeps begging me not to race it though she has even given me full permission to display the bike in our dining room. What wife does that lol.

She's a keeper! I'd put the J&B in the dining room----and talk Joe out of something in his garage to race. He's always on here threatening to 'thin the herd.' Grinning

Everyone is saying park it but me I guess this time I should listen. A 74 yz125 would definitly help me come to the decision to park the j&b joe being a honda guy I doubt he has one of those he would thin out.

Fred if you have anymore pics of the bike from its glory days both Ralph and I would love to see them. I'm dragging my butt finishing the 125 but Ralph had the 100 at rio in November for the ahrma race and I think he took best in show. He took best in his age group for sure. Here is a pic of the finished 100.

I am sorry but I do not remember that bike, maybe there was another Troy Broussard as it is a common name in that area. We had a brown van not a blue one. I was small but I am pretty sure I remember color. I did find this of me on an MR50 I think at Rose Hill???
