Here is a quick shot of my Honda CR1251990 with 91 tank, subframe, plastics etc with a 1986 paint job. It's had a light restoration as It's only my play/practise bike. My Honda CR125 1986 in the foreground.

The 90 really looks great in 86 colors. You built it like Honda should have

I agree with MaxPower,I like the look's of both but the 1990 is candy !! I like the idea of building a bike to your own standard's and not worrying about what other people think.Good job JT.

Building a '90 with '91 bodywork at the moment myself.

Had considered the 80's colour scheme you've used too, but went for OE colours.

Wondering if I should've now, as your bike looks fantastic.

Honda shoulda stuck with the orange and blue. They both look stellar but the '90 really has my attention. Good job on both of them!

The tyre's creeped. Powder or grease the tube when you install, and make sure the rimlock's tight.
Run the nut at the valve up to the underside of the valve cap, so you'll notice the creep before it tears out the valve.

My friend has a tyre shop and he did it all. He will sort it tomorrow.

Love it! Been thinking of something similar, cause those colors are so badass. One question, why switch to the '91 plastics?

I started out with a 91 subframe and rear end like the Factory 125's had back then. Also someone on here a couple of years ago did the same and made a great job of it. I then thought about a 91 tank as I prefer the shape of the line where the radiator scoops meet. I got a NOS air box for a good price and also new UFO radiator scoops and side panels in red cheap. I had the shock re-oiled and gassed. I anodised the fork caps blue and when I removed them the sliders slipped out and 'peed' fork oil all over my garage floor. So I changed the fork seals at the same time and thoroughly cleaned everything inside. I don't think these forks are too bad though most other people slate them. I had the frame powder coated to match my 86's by my friend. Stripped the wheels and had the hubs powder coated , new wheel bearings and the spokes re-plated. I re-built the brake master cylinders and callipers and had them powder coated. New HONDA RACING clutch and ignition covers. Blue seat cover from a guy on ebay in Thailand. It was a bit tight to fit and had to leave it in the sun for a couple of hours to soften enough. Rear mudguard stickers from Frank at Evo-mx and radiator wing stickers from Paul at MX Legends both in the UK. New chain and sprockets. The bike was in very good condition when I got it and as it is my play/practise bike and I don't ride that much I didn't go too deep into it. I wanted the colour scheme to mimic my 86's but the other details, stickers etc to be like the 90/91 bike. I'm pleased with how it's turned out. It drew a lot of attention at the track at the weekend.

Awesome job Keith!

That colour scheme looks great on your 90/91 and there is something about the combination of the blue on red of the 86 model CR's that is timeless. I'm doing a 2000 CR250 at the minute and really want some blue in the graphics and will probably go an all blue seat cover.

Quick question for ya.....the rear sprockets you are running, are they Afam and do you have a readily available source for them?

Cheers and keep the pics coming Cool

Thanks for the comments, I really like the 80's red and blue combination. The rear sprockets are actually Apico that I picked a few a couple of years back. I was chasing an AFAM sprocket a while back but they weren't this design. I had some Factory Honda AFAM rear sprockets but the centre hole is about 5mm bigger than the stock hub and doesn't sit on the hub snugly. If you are looking for the Factory Honda style, I recommend getting Sunstar Works Triple Star. They are available in a light gold/champagne colour and are now available in Europe through Braking (I was told this by them directly and they are made in Romania or Hungary anyway).

Good info. Keith, cheers for the reply.

I will keep an eye out for both the Apico and SunStar. They are a nice touch and add a little hint of factory!

Sounds good to me. Any issues mounting the tank or subframe? Or did you have to make some mods?

The tank and subframe bolted straight on. I think the subframe is a little bit bent to the right, I will remove the shock and lift the rear wheel to check. Other than that I think the bikes are more or less the same.

The numbers and backgrounds complete came from Frank at Evo-mx.com in England, he also made the read fender stickers on both bikes. He will make exactly what you want and if you can provide an image or photo it makes it much quicker (the stickers not the bike) He also communicates with you and sends examples by e-mail and can adjust them if not exactly what you want. Great people to work with.

And I'd be the guy who bought them from you--d'oh! So much for mounting them on my '89 and '87.

Such a Beauty. You don't have to check the subframe for me, I was just curious. I am buying a CR125 this weekend, just haven't decided between the '96, '93, or '91. Seeing your bike makes the decision that much harder. Tongue

Nice work, did you have any water pump issues? What did you do to your lower fork tubes?
Yes correct later rear disc set up on modified stock frame and swing arm. With 87/88 6 bolt hole hub.

Yeah, had waterpump problems,I have one usable cover with not too bad corrosion but recently brought this alloy repo off an Aussie guy,They come plain(No Honda raised lettering) but I had the writing laser etched on,Don't think it will last though, I reckon my boots will rub it off, looks trick for now Cool ,my lower fork legs are just painted black,What brand is your pipe & muffler,my pipe is DG with the plate removed & a DMC muffler,I am running a 85/86 CR250 carb but want to find out if there is a VForce that will fit,any ideas?

I saw those clutch covers from Australia, makes sense for you I guess because I hear you have expensive import taxes. My pipe is a Pro Circuit that does away with the ATAC system with a NOS silencer. I have a 36mm carb, CR250 Showa shock re-valved (not in photo), Mugen fork kit, VForce 3 valve (from a 1987) and LOTS of Ti bolts
