Tyler, Thank you for your keen observation. I understand you are a detail oriented guy, so please post some pics of your hard work so others can pick apart the details.

Mate that is absolutely stunning and a credit to your ability to source 'unobtanium' parts! Well done - I could never bring myself to ride it!

I'm glad you "were just fuckin' with" the guy about the seat cover install and gaps around the seat on his 87 KX125 project.

Beautiful 87 CR. I loved those bikes when I was a kid. I was riding Yamaha at the time and always wished I was on a Honda...or a Kawi. Great job, Buddy!!

As far as performance, how was the 87 compared to the 88?
I liked the change of the body style but I liked the red of the early bikes better.
I'd love to own and race either one today

The '88 was a bit of a disappointment compared to the '86 and '87. I had both the '87 and '88 and the '87 was a better all around bike. The '88 suspension was no where near as good as the '87. Motor-wise the '88 was a step back also. The '88 wasn't a bad bike, but it wasn't in the same league as the '86 and '87 CR250s. Just my opinion, but many others agree.

Anybody know if there are options on the top triple clamp ? Trying to get the bars in a more forward setting.
Was not sure if a later top clamp might be a option.

you can use the '87 or '88 125 top clamp. It is solid mounted and the bars a bit more forward.

For sure the 125 clamp will work on the 250 ? I saw a few on ebay for cheap so it might be worth a shot.
Thanx for the heads up in advance.

"WOW Dan! Sweet 87 CR! That's definitely the nicest I've seen! I love the attention to detail and tenacity you had finding all those rare discontinued OEM parts. Now put that thing up on a pedestal and enjoy the fact that you own arguably the best CR of all time restored to perfection! The fact it was owned by Mickey and has some works parts puts it over the top!"

I'm a little late to the party on this one, just realized he finished it.

I have to agree, that IS the nicest 87 I have seen. The restoration work is top notch. With it's documented race and rider
pedigree, it's worthy of consideration for the Honda Collection Hall in Motegi, IMO.

The 87 is another one of the highly desirable iconic models, and this one would make a nice addition to any serious collection.

Well done, Dan.

I see you have a KTM 250sx in your second pic. This is good so you can leave your awesome build parked!

I just took the barclamps of the triple, disambled the top tripleclamp and put it on upsidedown , then fill the holows in the castings with a gluegun, putted the barclamp back on , it make the bars forward at least 1 inch and I raced with no problem.

Hello all. I wanted to post a few pics of my '87 CR250 that was once owned by Micky Dymond. I even have the original pink slip with his name on it dated in late '86. It has taken me 3 years so far to track down all NOS Honda parts for it as many of them are discontinued. This is my first time posting pics so I hope they post ok. I should have it finished by this weekend and I will post the final pics.

That is beautiful!

Thanks Tooka! This restoration was a very cool project that took over four years to complete. OEM parts for the '87 CRs are becoming extremely hard to find and It took years of searching to find all the period correct parts. The bike is now on display at the Moto Armory museum in Illinois. I'm glad it went to a good home and people will get to enjoy it. Thanks for the compliments.

Wow - absolute perfection! There's something special about these Hondas... the engine looks great too - so clean and factory fresh! Three thumbs up!

Stunning bike! I'm in admiration that you had the patience and determination to spend so long sourcing the parts you needed to get this bike to perfection!

I have nine1seven's 1987 CR250 project. From being around that, I have an idea how much work went into sourcing the parts... the extra works parts push this project into HoF territory.. If only it didn't have the wrong countershaft guard LOL

Amazing work, hats off sir

great job! these bikes were way ahead of their time. back in 87 my buddy bought a new cr 250 & i bought the rm 250! i rode my buddies bike & could not beleive what a mistake i made! 87 rm was a p.o.s! its very frustrating when project is stalled out waiting on parts, walk proud!
