Hi, I have an 1986 KTM 80 MX, The engine is currently undergoing a rebuild with a new main bearing, conrod, piston and rings. KTM say the engine year is a 1985? Did they make this model in this year? and how much are these rare bikes worth?
I have no idea what it is worth.
The Shop
he don´t list all the part´s, you have to ask if you don´t find it
If you've got coolant coming out of the cover, you should research what goes into to repairing the clutch cover rot on Hondas. It's not just the outer case, you have to clear/replace the hoses, radiator, etc. This rot is chronic, and the overheating it creates causes seizures. Think about how much possibly fixing all that is going to cost, even if you can get this Jack guy to fork over the parts.
When the KTM 80s came out as I recall they were not well received, which may be one of the reasons for the bike's scarcity. If you have some kind of emotional attachment that's one thing, but if you are looking for an 80 as a rider you would probably be dollars ahead parting out the KTM and getting your son a Japanese brand.
Just my humble .02

Not sure how many were brought to the States in 86 but my brother and I had the only 2 in IL.
I got so jealous of my brother the next year because his bike got stolen so after the insurance settlement he got to get a new 87 with the super trick upside down forks!
Old thread but hoping someone might see this and be able to help.
I’m building a 86 KTM 80 and need a usable crank. I have a new piston and rod kit from Andre, but the crank I have is total junk. Bike sat for years with water in it!
