Help ID-ing MX-Fox racer

4/17/2012 2:20pm Edited Date/Time 10/5/2014 7:36pm
Two of the racers should be pretty easy...but who is the racer on the left?

I'm really don't know who it is and neither do the people at Fox who ask me for help!!!

Thanks, George

Lenny Giger?

Sheesh, I just realized I left a huge clue in the name of the image file!

Anyway, not surprised BobbyM got Wosick and Can-He-Loop-it.

One of the Wanket's or Lenny Giger make sense for the time period.

Maybe Jo Jo Keller?

Thx, G.

It's Pat Moroney #45 in 1979. There was a picture of his bike in MX Action that showed his 1979 RM running a 1978 rear fender - anyone remember that ?

To small of a guy to be Jo Jo and not skinny enough to be Pat Moroney.

Mike Marquez.

I thought about Mike Marquez but now I'm leaning towards Pat Maroney #45 because of this photo (and TG130's comment)
posted by Andymoto on, uh, another MX forum. Check it out, you can see number 5 on the mystery racers helmet and the below photo shows "Pat" and #45, although I can't read the name on the back of the jersey, hmm?

You are probably right GM. Had breakfast with Pat and some buds going out to race the Saddleback National in 1980. He thought it would be cool to dine and dash. Oh ya he did it!!

Tough to argue against it being Pat. He was also #45 in that popular poster of him crossed up on the Honda at Daytona.
But seeing him many times as I'm from his neck of the woods, the face doesn't look like him.

Okay, it is not Pat Moroney. I got shut down by some people off forum on that regard, too. Back to the drawing board.

Fox Van photo is cool. Refresh my memory about Stacy, first name?

Left to right

Pat Moroney, Jim Turner, Kip Klassen (brother Perry?), Stacy.

My guess was thiss Klassen is Perry. Frank is the Stacey, he rode for KTM and Sachs as well. His brother Andy had some support rides in the early mid 80's also.

Barnett rode for Fox in 1977.

Here is a fairly recent picture of Mike Marquez. He was National # 95 in 1980, but the above pic is from 1979, I believe. Also, doesn't Marquez work at Fox ? I would think that they would recognize him, but I think there is a resemblance here. Judge for yourselves.

Not Neezer (Mike Marquez). Sent him the pic and he said Pat Richter possibly? Mike is the Moto suspension guru at FOX Racing Shox. The pic of him is with Michael Willards Honda when Wilbur rode for CYCRA and FOX Racing Shox.

Klassan?? Ok. You know your racers Bobby. George will be happy to know that. Thanks bud!!

Definitely not Richter.

Not you, is it George?
When I first saw the photo, for one nano-second, I thought it was me! - Nope, not me, although he could be a stand in for me.

I wouldn't let my gear get that beat up. You'd never see me with a big gouge in the top of my helmet. Not judging, just saying.

That is part of why the Fox guys are curious. Paraphrasing: "who is that guy and why does his gear so shabby compared to Donnie Cantaloupi and Larry Wosick."

By the way, Fox is building a museum and look for memorabilia.

Randy K sounds like a good lead, thx. I don't think it is Carlos Serrano.

Hmm , I beg to differ, I think the riders are left to right Pat Moroney, Jim Turner, Parry Klassen and Frank Stacy. Moroney and Stacy were both Noo Yawkas. Here is an article /interview I did with Pat a while back from the MSC website. D34 in da house. Braaap. http://history.mscmotocross.com/history/pat-maroney/
