Swapped the gear selector shaft basket and pawls etc and plate from a 1986 to see if this improves the gears jumping out

Keep us posted on the progress. I have one of these bikes but not very knowledgeable about them...I do know I need to go through the gearbox as it just falls out of gear every time it gets airborne.
I have the same issues with an 83 I built. Please let us know if the 86 parts (bits) make a difference.

Are the OEM metal plates made of aluminum or steel on that bike?

the ones I changed last night were steel given the age / condition of bike haha it is unlikely that they are the original

The springs were within 1mm of tolerance and the basket was grooved which I have now file flat , the double bearings also had play in them so have ordered two more of them from another supplier as they are no longer available from partzilla or cmsnl

The clutch seems quite heavy to pull but I think I have been spoiled by the magura I put on my 99

I have also replaced the bearing at the front of the brake torsion arm and re-bushed the back where it joins the brake plate so it has gone from 10mm of slop to about 1 mm which is an improvement

racing at Long Buckby at the weekend with the Eastern Evo series

The track will not be this dry I am sure

Yes I hope so I have done the Eastern Evo series this year as it my first year back racing for 26 years so thought I would ease in gently !

I am trying to build a spare engine out of the remains so stalking ebay atm .I have a few jobs to do before next season and will also tidy the bike up with some new plastic and seat cover

I am looking to do the Pre 83 next season and the Eastern who will have more dates

Have loved the whole thing , the banter , people, meeting guys I used to race with . The racing is great and all seem to be of an age where we all realise we have work on Monday

Farleigh was awesome even if the bike had a few problems , lots of like minded people , loads of two strokes , whats not to like

Thanks for the update! I already bought all the upgrade parts, now you've given me motivation to install them. I finished this bike summer 2014, but it's just been sitting since then, because I was so disgusted.

I now plan some thoughtful mods over the winter before some new cosmetic additions to smarten the whole thing up

The idea with the dyno was to check where the starting point is before playing with the engine

I have found someone to manufacture an exhaust for me to replace the 86/99 one that is currently on there and someone to breathe on the engine a little so I will keep you up dated over the winter

The blasted frame is from an 1986 which shows how they evolved the frame design

I had a call from my fabricator today who has made some progress on my tank for the 83
He expects to finish the tank this week and sent the photos for approval
The aim was to reduce the size and lower the centre of gravity
I thought it looked great

Still needs painting although I will leave the underneath bare and the seat is not fixed down which will end up flush

Very pleased with the work

I can collect over the weekend and I am really looking forward to seeing it in the flesh

An aluminium subframe with some 1984 side panels would probably be the next stage along with a good clean and respray the frame

I would love a KRP arm but they are a bit of a step too far financially at the moment Quite interestingly Farleigh are not running their pre 83 125 but have now gone pre 85 125 so maybe its time for mk 2
