I have swapped out the stock KYB forks on my 1985 CR125 for a set of 89 CR125 Showa cartridge jobs, I am using the 85 triple clamps, front wheel, axle, caliper & spacers, all bolts on no problems & works fine, however the axle end is not flush(comes up short) with the four bolt axle clamp on the opposite side to the disc, At first I thought the 89 must have a longer axle & that would fix the problem but they have the same part number for both 85 & 89, the only difference I could find was the disc side spacer on the 89 has a different part number,so maybe longer? the wheel spins fine & the brake works properly so I would not of thought so,Anybody done this swap or know the problem?

You may have the same issue I ran into with my recent fork swap. The spacing is different in the triple clamps.

With the wheel spacers you're using is your front wheel properly centered between the fork tubes?

Try to find out the difference between the 85 and 89 brake side wheel spacer.

By saying your axle is "not flush" do you mean it's sticking out past the fork lug or that it's inside the lug?

Sorry, It's inside the lug, so comes up short, I'm now thinking the 89 model either has a wider hub or narrower triples, the wheel will not move over far enough even with a longer disc side spacer as it hits the caliper bracket.

L Snore,

The yokes are the same spacing for all 43mm CR forks.

The '85 and '89 have different hubs, 44601-KA3-830ZA for the '85 (ZA is the colour code for black by the way) and
44601-KZ4-000 for the '89. The LH (disc side spacer) is also different. However, if the current spacer set up has the disc postioned correctly in the caliper I wouldn't worry about that bit to much.

There are 2 options you have to sort the axle position out.

1) Swap in an '89 front hub or complete wheel along with all the spacers.

2)Have a new RH spacer made.

Let me know the how far axle is sitting in. (I'll take a guess and say 8-10mm??) The base of the hexagon should be just flush with the face of the clamp block, and the length of the current RH spacer. I can make you a spacer that brings the axle out to sit in the correct position. I already make the std spacers for the '89 so one thats a little longer would be no problem at all. The std RH spacer is £15.00 plus postage, a longer one would be the same price.

Hey Stevie, do you happen to still make those spacers as I am trying to complete the same swap with ‘89 forks in my ‘85
